Male or female, black or white, makes no difference.... you come at a cop anytime, and especially while he's trying to make an arrest, you're asking for it. Seattle police have had more than their share of "questionable" use of force incidents, but this wasn't one of 'em.
The police officer is way too short to act on his own. He is unable to handle a woman without using excessice force. A taller and stronger officer would not have the same problem.
Just for the folks who don't know my politics, I will be the first to call a cop out for abuse.
Quote:
I thought the Rodney King arrest was the sine quo non of police abuse footage,
but having said that, an officer has the right, and the duty to use all force necessary to affect an arrest whether that arrest is lawful or not!
Personally, I will argue, cuss and scream at any cop that I think is out of line, but once he states that I am under arrest, my resistance ceases. I will just deal with his and the department's sorry ass at a later date through my attorney.
Actually, the Rodney King beating wasn't as bad as it looks , he had very minor injuries. everyone always forgets to mention what happened before the video.

Oh Lord, I saw this on the news a few nights ago. It's sad, & as a young black woman I can empathize. BUT at the same time, she should have NEVER resisted...she was just asking for it. POC (people of color) are already distrustful of police so there was no need for her to go all "banshee making a scene" when she should have just complied. The cop NEVER should have hit her though, so don't think I'm condoning that.
I also heard that this girl has a Juvenile record & that she's been arrested before if I'm not mistaken?
These are just my thoughts of course...sad sad sad though.
PS-Might I add that some of the comments in here are truly astounding.

Well how do you think he should have reacted while she was punching him while he was trying to cuff the other girl and a bunch of hoodlums surrounding him with no backup?!? Seriously, come on!
I am usually the first to call a cop out on his transgressions, but this girl most certainly had it coming. She probably thought her age and gender would somehow afford her the right to shove the officer like she would a drunken ex-boyfriend making an unwanted advance without impunity or retaliation. I trust she'll think twice before pulling a stunt like that again.

I agree. Her body language would indicate complete surprise more than injury. I'm sure it stung but it wasn't a particularly forceful punch.
The cop in Seattle was not a bad cop!! She deserved to be cold cocked!!
