Great. Another "blue-ribbon" panel. Hey thanks Mr. President, just what we needed from you.

WASHINGTON – The panel appointed by President Barack Obama to investigate the Gulf of Mexico oil spill is short on technical expertise but long on talking publicly about "America's addiction to oil." One member has blogged about it regularly.

Boy that Harvard educated Obama sure knows how to pick em.

Iraj Ersahaghi, who heads the petroleum engineering program the University of Southern California, reviewed the names of oil spill commissioners and asked, "What do they know about petroleum?"
Well it's like this Iraj, Obama needs people on that commision who strictly follow his agenda and don't ask too many questions.

None of these people know a damn thing about drilling or oil exploration. Obama has proven that he is a complete idiot! What a dumb ass! Get this guy out of the White House. He doesn't belong. He hasn't the smarts.

Total failure! F-

If I were Yahoo News I wouldnt be so partisan.

Waaay down at the bottom, just as if it were a Fox news article, is
The oil spill commission will not be at a loss for technical help, White House spokesman Ben LaBolt said.

For one, he said the panel will draw on a technical analysis that the National Association of Engineering is performing. Also, members will "consult the best minds and subject matter experts in the Gulf, in the private sector, in think tanks and in the federal government as they conduct their research."

That makes sense, said John Marburger, who was science adviser to President George W. Bush.

"It's not really a technical commission," Marburger said. "It's a commission that's more oriented to understanding the regulatory and organizational framework, which clearly has a major bearing on the incident."

Having experience in Washington DC's policy phalanx, I can say that there's a time and a place for policy wonks. This is not the time, nor the place. I am a die-hard believer that one of the major flaws of government is the colossal disconnect between the technical mechanics of any given subject and policy recommendations that come from the various Agencies. In short, the persons writing policy are generally not those who have hands-on experience in the areas in which they write policy. It results in excessive butting of heads and the policy wonks generally win because they're usually better connected to the upper echelons. I've seen it time and again, and its absolutely nothing worth being proud of your government for. That's just the way it is. I wish everyone could see it in action. The level of disgust would truly be noteworthy.

Yes, policy is needed as much as technical expertise is needed. But in government, there's more compartmentalization than there is cooperation. That's where the fissure exists, and it does nothing but hurt this country.
