If you read closely, it seems like this started out as being replenished with the stimulus. I'm guessing it snowballed. This says:
Quote:
An amended version of the law that Lesniak said prevents voter referendums for projects linked to state economic stimulus programs — such as the Xanadu proposal — was signed into law by Governor Christie, a Republican, in May.
I guess this was an unintended consequence.
But if this goes through...we should own a piece of action if we're gonna pay for this firetrap for the next two decades. I'm hoping Christie will read the fine print before making a decision.
Christie is a lunatic of the Joe McCarthy variety. Depending on him to read fine print is pretty much a longshot.
Hes just another Northeastern Politician , i hope he does this because it will end his future career and next reelection bid. People will remember this and other things he has done. He doesn't seem to know what hes doing......although i think he means good , it comes out bad and corrupted.
I thought NJ had already privatized their DMVs, No?
I guess maybe they had originally just outsourced parts of the DMV.
I can tell you from personal experience, wen I was 17 (in the early 90's).... getting my license was a 4 hour experience. Ridiculous lines, countless forms, etc.
I went back 15 years later (after privatizing portions) when I returned to NJ for a stint from NYC to get a new NJ license..... 10 minutes. Not exaggerating.

It was privatized during the Christie Todd Whitman era, then McGreevy did the right thing by placing it back into the hands of the states. My experience has been the opposit since the de-privatizing, the lines are shorter and the wait as well. I guess it depends on what office you go too and if that is the only one in the area
Uhm...you do understand that the DMV does more than inspect cars correct?
Where does it say privatize the DMV. They are simply making people use a private mechanic (and pay the machanic for the service) in order to get emissions testing done... exactly what NYS has been doing for years an years.
They are undergoing a privatization trend here in Arizona, mainly with more obvious candidates like maintenance, drivers, etc. There was recently a protest march opposing it, from what I could tell a bunch of guys who are pissed they won't get to mow lawns and trim bushes until age 52 then retire with full pension and health bennies.
New york has had "private' inspections stations for DECADES (any dealership, speedy muffle, quick tune CAN become an inspections station ONCE THEY GET CERTIFIED from the state)
to have the STATE DOING IT is just stupid...New Jersey needs to catch up to the 21st century
kudos to Christie
