Actually the closing times were a facet of the repeal of Prohibition in 1933. Along with state oversight and licensing of alcohol production and sales.

Annapolis has just received a report recommending the city normalize the bar closing times, right now some are required to close earlier than others depending on the bar location and when the original license was granted. Also in the mix is downtown Annapolis housing with bars right next to or located in residential areas.

OP, just out of curiousity, how old are you?

I'm not going to answer that, but I can say that I'm not some college kid, who just wants later closing times for an excuse to drink more.

OK, because that's where I thought you were going.

They probably want to close, take a break, clean the joint up, restock, etc. It's not a hospital for god's sake, bars do no require 24/7 access.

We have bars in Chicago that close at 4am Sun-Mon and 5am on Sat. We have a bunch that open between 6 to 9am as well (but these close at 12am to 2am.)

Because it keeps the population in line with Christian morals.

You work Friday, so you're really to tired to party Friday night to much. Saturday is good, but they want you to go to church Sunday morning, so no partying past 2am.

If someone wants to open a 24hour bar, they should be able to do it with no government involvement.

The christian right does play a big part. The laws are all different from state and state and county to county. Las vegas and new orleans are open 24 hours, while many bible belt states are so strict they go as far to only allow low alcohol beer, bars closing very early and not allowed to be open on sundays among other things.

Its the Christian groups where I come from that stop it.

Liquor by the drink, nope, can't have that.

Bars stay open later than 2am, God forbid on Saturday night.

Beer sold on Sunday, Heaven forgive us.

Its the same "moral majority" all over the place, and its largely led by Christian groups.

In Oregon recently,a new law was 'proposed' to limit each person to 3 drinks...!! (have heard nothing since)

So if such a law were passed,...you would end up with roving drunks...going from one bar to another..lol

God Bless the State of Louisiana!

Of course with the recent troubles having had 24 hour bars for ages has turned into a needed blessing.
