"So I'm supposed to suddenly start worrying about six billion strangers? That's not even possible!

That's right, it isn't possible. That's the point.
What is hard to understand is that it's also impossible for them to care about you."
This tribalist aspect that exists in all humans is basically the cause of racism and ethnocentrism. I have come to conclude that it is an uncorrectly affliction on all of humanity. And thusly, humanity should attempt to organize itself in much smaller units than what currently exist. For the betterment of all others.
Here is some further reading on the concepts of the monkeysphere(tribalism).
I would be interested in having your opinions on the ramifications of the biological constraints of humanity in dealing with "other tribes". And what the best and most realistic policy should be for making the world better for everyone. Especially, do you believe this country would be better off if it was broken down into many much smaller nations(sort of like Europe)? Would it be better if we Balkanized our system(like the dissolution of Yugoslavia, which we supported), to provide better representation of these smaller "tribes" as independent or autonomous states? Why or why not?
And please don't respond unless you read the first article through at least the first page or have read it(or something similar) before in the past.
I am not familiar with Dunbar's number, nor the Tipping Point. Well actually I've heard of the Tipping Point, but I've never read it. But I am familiar with tribalism. I think Tribalism is so pervasive globally, it would be crazy to deny that it is natural. However, I feel it should not be accepted. We should fight this tendency. The world does seem to segregate along tribal/ethnic/religious/racial/national lines on it's own. But for us to fulfill our true potential, I think we must rise to a higher understanding. It was Carl Sagan's 'Pale Blue dot' series that helped form my current point of view. He speaks of this conscientiousness throughout the series as well as his writings. Being aware of your race, culture, ethnicity is fine and wonderful. But pledging allegiance to these things before you recognize your bond to the human race is where the conflict occurs.
Hate to say it, but the OP may have a point. Maybe everyone would be better off if we were to completely disassociate from one another and mingle with only our "own kind". You only have to look at places such as New York City or Los Angeles to see how failed an experiment "diversity" and "multiculturalism" has become...
One of the problems with political correctness is trying to socially re-engineer human nature. Most people (not all) naturally segregate themselves. Go to any high school or movie theater to watch it happen in real time. People should not automatically be labeled racist because of this. People gravitate toward which they are more comfortable being around and that would be others who share their ethnicity, culture, and values. That's why we have places called Chinatown, Little Italy, etc.

Most people, especially limousine elitist libs stay with their own kind. Nothing wrong with it.

Racism is a rather modern development. The word racism wasn't even coined until the mid 19th century long after tribalism had given way to nationalism.

I agree.
I think there could be less conflict on an individual basis if everyone stayed "with their own kind," in some places. For instance, there are a few cities where I think things would be a lot more peaceful, however, the world was much more violent during times of homogeneity. Look at all of the wars of Europe, Asia, Africa, etc. Like 'ovcatto' says, there were more wars before multiculturalism, diversity, or integration. I think the problem is with our nature, and I do think we can surmount this fierce natural propensity for tribalism(based on race, ethnicity, religious, nation, etc). I propose we turn to humanism!
