This is a good thing. After all, unemployment checks are the best kind of stimulus, according to Ms. Pelosi. Also, didn't some economist say that every $1 spent by the gov't reaps $1.20 back in revenue?

Slight correction - UIC was the best form of stimulus until this week. Now it turns out that having Mrs. Obama visit your country is the best form of stimulus.

Initial claims have declined. You should know if you're talking about it. If you're also one of those claiming the current initial job claims to be an all time high (as the title of the thread incorrectly suggests), then know that the high was reached in March 2009 with 651,000. The current initial jobless claim would be fourth decline in five weeks, to about 455,000 (Bloomberg Business Week).

Depends on what you consider to be wrong: showing better numbers to gain politically or caring for people even if it hurts scoring a political point.

Do you consider it better for the government to do business that helps it politically? If you do, we certainly have polar opposite takes on "tough decisions".

I have no idea what you're talking about - I was just clarifying that initial claims are completely unrelated to EUC extensions.

And not that it's of any great importance, but current initial claims did rise, to 479K. The 455K was what was expected, not what actually happened.

That should be the next stimulus to create/keep jobs...

Michelle Obama and her entourage to visit major cities in the US.

Not a bad idea - I'll get some stimulus funds and erect a giant "your tax dollars at work" sign to get things started!

Ouch... No. Every $1 taxed out of the economy and spent by the government destroys $1.10 worth of economic growth.

No, it is not a "new high". It is the highest number since April, 2010. Read for comprehension.

From my link, posted earlier:

Applications for unemployment insurance have fluctuated between 450,000 and 480,000 all year, after declining steadily last year from a peak of 651,000 in March 2009.
