I did "join" by signing a paper with my e-mail and home address.
This was to get information.
Dues...no.....however, they do "pass the hat" and collect donations.
That was my point. There is no "membership" formally per say. The Tea Party is a group of loosely organized citizens gathering to express their concerns over the departure from the constitutional powers enumerated to the federal government and the fiscal irresponsibility those departures have brought through crippling debt and burdensome tax code.
At least, that is my perception. It is not a formal party, there is no caucus, no membership requirements, just communication and donations.
^^Don't see anything in either of the job descriptions about getting paid to post on message boards. This is a common accusation of both the left and the right, and I don't see any evidence of either.
I was impressed with the Tea Party when it first started and supported some of their ideas when it was just about "approriate fiscal responsibility." However, they added more "items" to their platform (mainly social) and I was turned off quickly.

all these labels give me tired head...can't you believe in what you want to believe in with out having to join some group and giving yourself a label??
to me, giving yourself a label diminishes your individual views...politics as usual.

Keep looking , I saw a "special" on TV boasting about how the students could make extra money .

I've yet to see the TP advocate for social agenda items. Care to back up your statements?

Then stop labeling people.
Many things at the meetings I agree with other Tea Party participants, and some things I disagree with.
They support my right to disagree as I support theirs.
The Tea Party is just about concerned citizens who are against government oppression, plain and simple. We have seen the error of government regulation and how it has ruined the economy. We have laughed at the government watchdog groups like the SEC who have failed to do their jobs and caused financial ruin to so many. We have watched Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac become playgrounds of corruption, all in the name of the government helping the people when really they are just screwing us for their own personal gain. It is the "fat cats" in the government that we are against, not the private enterprise that made this country and is the heart of this country.
Tea Party folks just want to take the country back for the people and remove what is the failure of government.

Well said and I feel the same way. The reason being - Political opportunists like Newt and Palin hijacked the movement.
I doubt anyone out there would disagree that the voters of America have had enough with corruption in our Government and would not support a movement to end it.
But once a populist movement is politically hijacked - its legitimacy is lost.
