It may not be their intention, but I think they're also solidifying the Latino vote for Democrats in the years to come.
Finally, a lib admits what is happening here. Only if he gets his amnesty pushed through in the Lame Duck session is this going to work. Many Latinos already in country just won't go for all this. About the only ones in my part of the world who will be taken in by this are the illegals. You know those who broke the law when they entered without permission.

Why do you lib/progressives overlook the illegal actions of these people?
I would say that you haven't read anything posted here or anywhere else if you haven't seen that Sheriff Joe and his lawyer say that they gave up all kinds of papers but they think Holder wants to run a fishing expedition in the Sheriff's office. Fishing without a warrant is against the law and fishing expeditions just aren't legal at all. I am wondering if you shouldn't come in out of the desert sun.

The Sheriff in the county where I live,MARICOPA, does whatever he wants without being accountable & has been for a long time. Everybody here knows it. He is sorta like Dick Cheney & will tell someone to go F--- themselves in a minute or he will bully them and has even had some arrested.
He has WAY overstepped his boundaries & power. He has people AFRAID of standing up to him.
His jails commissaries make 6 million dollars a year. Where & how does the money get spent? This is public knowledge or it should be but, according to ole Joe the people of this county who want to know can screw themselves. We do know that many of his tops dogs have had all expense paid vacations in Honduras under the pretense of investigating drug smuggling. The pics showed how hard they worked on this while on the beach with some babes & drinks in hand.
We also know of the outta control spending on the credit cards with very high limits. I believe this has recently been stopped due to him releasing some of his records.
You only know what you see or read about him & these news pieces & articles are mostly to HIS benefit.
IMO & many others who have lived with this over the years this guy is just another thug-like mobster.

Usually there is a process for recalling or removing elected officials at the state and county levels when the voters are as upset as your post would indicate. Why hasn't this been done? Doesn't the county executive have control over credit limits? A simple phone call to cancel a card or drastically reduce a credit limit by the county executive would end that.

The reason is simple. That poster is exaggerating.

Many of the people in Maricopa County are more impressed with the appearance of toughness on crime than actual law enforcement. The Wild West is still alive in Arizona, and Arpaio's thuggishness is seen as the embodiment of the Wild West lawman to a lot of people. The constituency that votes for the MC Sheriff is older, mostly white, upper middle class-to-wealthy, and are easily frightened by the prospect of brown people in their midst.
Arpaio has been getting by on his PR, cronies, and bullying so far. However, his refusal to account for his spending of public funds is developing into a big problem for him, on top of the civil rights violations. One thing that people tend to forget (or ignore) is that many of the inmates under Arpaio's control are people awaiting trial, and therefore are still to be considered innocent. He doesn't treat these still nominally innocent people any better than those who have been convicted, and some have died due to mistreatment.
Arpaio's assertion that his department has released documents to the USAG cracked me up - "we have released thousands of the documents they requested" - perhaps they didn't release the correct ones? By his own admission, they did not release all of the requested documents. You don't get to pick & choose when subpoenas are served. You have to provide what they demand.
While there are several things that should have been and remain to be done, one of those problems revolves around a case. The original case was Hart v Hill (then Hart v Arpaio and finally Graves v Arpaio) and Judge Carroll didn't make a move on it for what, 10 years? He recused himself, and Judge Wake picked it up. And guess what? No more accreditation for you.
Had Carroll moved just a touch faster, a lot could have been avoided. Because it wasn't until 2008 that he lost. However, by this time, the US public is thinking that pink panties and public humiliation and the conditions in jail prove that something is being done but more importantly that this is ok. That is a problem. And it has been a costly problem. Had the Feds nailed him earlier, this wouldn't have gotten as far as it had. Had the corporations and the farmers stopped advertising for illegal aliens to come into this country and the IRS handed over the proof of the location of undocumented workers, this would have been avoided. But it is 2010 and Arpaio has not changed the conditions of the jail. And I think that it is past time for this bone head to go down.
