And Muslims invaded and conquered Spain and Sicily hundreds of years before the Crusades. Muslims occupied Spain for 800 years, and we don't teach our children to hate muslims due to "occupation" nor do we bring up Spain every time they or libs bring up the crusades.
The Crusades are brought up because numerous people have stated that Christianity has evolved. If we want to denounce a religion for being evil and therefore burn their texts... does that not show that certain people within the Christian community have not evolved?
To me, it just appears as though the "warring" between religions is nothing more than an endless waltz. The three beats of war, peace and revolution seem to continue on forever.

Christianity didn't need to "evolve". Our religion doesn't teach jihad, and martyrdom with a reward of 72 virgins.
The crusades were a response to protect pilgrims against getting attacked by muslims. They would most definitely be justified today--with the exception of some excessive violence that did take place by some that were not obeying the religion's teachings.

So why not expect muslims to evolve and not get violent over every percieved slight of their religion?
...is engaging in this book-burning stunt for this reason: to become famous, increase his followers, and hence increase his own wealth through contributions from said followers. I bet he is also hoping for a TV or radio deal out of this.

Wow! I didn't know that was his reason. Now I can see why the Post used the description of condemned when reporting Petrayus's objections. Come to think of it, legalsea would you know if that the same motivation Westboro Baptist Church has when promoting itself against homo's and soldiers? Or do you know of some other justification?
What saddens me about this topic is this: this book-burning preacher with a ‘flock’ of fifty people (if I recall the reports correctly) is engaging in this book-burning stunt for this reason: to become famous, increase his followers, and hence increase his own wealth through contributions from said followers. I bet he is also hoping for a TV or radio deal out of this.
He is getting his wish. Instead of ignoring him, a band of reporters will be filming every second of the book-burning, after which they will rush out and ask every Muslim they can find, foreign and domestic, “What do you think about this!” The reporters will, of course, get various responses, ranging from the ‘Who cares what a nut does?” to “Kill all Americans!” Guess which responses will make it to our television screens?
Yes, I suspect thats exactly it.

Well, the first reason is because their religion is archaic and outdated. ((much like many others))
Secondly, it's because America neither has the power nor the diplomacy to force another country to change or evolve. And as long as there's support for people like this minister of god, we never will.
