Politics used to be solemn and cerebral, expressed by dignified, intelligent people over serious matters. I was much younger and this is how it seemed at least. Now, we have regressed into the frivilous and the folly, tabloid politics. It is quite a shame.
In particular, the conservative candidates are absolutely pathetic. From that hick-sounding, simple-minded Sarah Palin to the idiotic rambling racists Rush Limbaugh and Glen Beck. Republicans have lowered the bar and O'Donnell the latest example of that. No substance, no character, no integrity, and certainly no business being in any prominent position.
You must be referring to the government before national socialism. That was the time when people's rights were secured.
Now, it's a government operated on opinion polls, popularity contests, and legalized bribery.
Even Congress doesn't bother to read the laws it enacts.
Why should the electorate be any better?
Tell us all how evolution has been proven and that this lady has no right to infer it as myth. I'm not sticking pins in my wax doll of you, I'm only stating that she has every right. It's like OJ, there might be a metric buttload of evidence to support your theory, but there's still holes in the argument and every right to have a genuine skepticism.
You can never truly prove anything in science. Everything we know in science is just our best guesses using the information we currently have. They are just the best models of natural processes we have. For example, Newton's 2nd Law of Motion (F=ma). It's the best model we have for macro mechanics. This theory doesn't hold up in all cases (such as relativity and quantum mechanics), but it is best model we have for everyday mechanics.
And while yes, even in the face of overwhelming evidence there are times when a theory does not explain everything. However, you will not be taken seriously unless you have a better theory that has less holes than the currently established theory.

But, if Beck say Evolution ain't so, it just ain't so.
