No, but you can certainly buy the ingredients and make one yourself. Then again I don't think you should be able to buy a lot of things on Food Stamps that can be, like candy and pop for example, so you probably can.

Girl came in the store years ago and asked if she could use all her food stamps to buy a wedding cake....

All I can say is: most wedding cakes I have tasted were horrible.

They can buy a wedding cake at Walmart or most grocery stores with their EBT cards because it's considered food.

And, then they can use the cash portion of their "benefits" for champagne and cigars for their guests and to get dragon lady acrylic nails done before the big day.

That's the way it is right now.

The point of food stamps is to allow the user to buy food of some kind to support the agribusiness industry. Buying a premade cake may not be as sensible as buying the ingredients and making your own but not everyone knows how to make and bake (You had to put it in the oven?) a cake.

Food Stamps are the result of a big businesses realizing they would never realize the economies of scale if they did not have a market for the products. So long as the stamps are used they have done their job.

What bothers me is if you are poor enough to be eligible for food stamps if you use all your food stamps for a $ 200 wedding cake ( and most WC cost much, much more than $ 200 ) , how then do you feed your kids for the following weeks ?

I like Opylie's idea of making it yourself. Then you can use the remaining amount for groceries...

What if the government regulated how you were to spend those food stamps ? No more prepared foods , ready foods , deli packs.

Only fresh fruits , veggies , fresh meats , cheese , cereals...kind of like WIC on steroids....( what I mean by that is more than WIC allows )
