So, you are saying that there are more "right wing" listeners and watchers than "left wing" ones? Interesting So who in your opinion are "true Conservative" hosts?
I have yet to come across a true "conservative" host. Thing is, I don't even desire to, in fact I would be repulsed as much as I am repulsed to see left wing opinion espoused in media. I appreciate the Charlie Rose type folks who make life on their own digs and for what they propose, not because some pinhead in the media agrees or doesn't.
Then again, the biggest problem today is finding an actual conservative amid a sea of neoconservative war mongering cowards who promote war but are too gutless to actually fight it. those people who cry moan and whine about enemies who either have the desire to hurt us have no real means or those who have the means and no desire to do so.
Most real conservatives are blowing bubbles with beef jerky and laughing at the pathetic attempts of the whacked out Muslim extremist, the rest, well they are the people hiding under the bed, like scared children crying for someone to protect them, as children often do.
Whether it be radio, tv, or the internet, why has Beck, Hannity, Rush, and others become the king of ratings?
Because they are the WFF of political discussion. They've turned it into entertainment and made it accessible to the dumb down masses who would otherwise be bored to death by civil political discussion. These are people who have simply migrated from Howard Stern to Rush Limbaugh. It was born via radio because something had to entertain these mostly white male listeners during their long commute to and from work. NPR (or real ideas and real discussion) wasn't entertaining or accessible enough for people who were bored with the potty humor of Stern but not quite intelligent for the dry and academic discussion on NPR.
They would rather hear Bob Grant call someone a jerk than listen to a fair exchange on NPR.
They want to hear someone verbally beaten up and Right wing entertainment gives that to them.
Rush, Hannity, Beck, Medved, Levin, Prager, Ingraham, and others, expose what liberals, leftists, "progressives', and many Dems fervently wish would slip past the public without attention: their hypocracy, "politics of Envy", political correctness. social engineering, wealth re-distributionist, open borders, Big Government, anti-religious, pro socialist policies, programs, legislation, and agenda.
Conservative Talk Show hosts are pests---'flies in their soup'. If the same 'Buffoons', instead, had liberal propensities....they would be worshipped by the Left.
The Conservative host's intelligent, incisive, entertaining and relentless unmasking of Dem's, and their agendas; enrages Libs.
Good for Conservatives---and good for millions of Americans who recognize and defy the machinations and skullduggery of "Leaders" and citizens infected with socialist proclivities.
America is fortunate---and owes many thanks to Conservative Media outlets, and their hosts.
I personaly don't listen to any of them, but I sense their appeal is two fold. One they reflect the views of a vast swath of the US who feel that the media elite is patronizing and condescending towards them. We see that elite media attitude reflected by some of the posters n this thread. This is borne out by a quote attributed to Pauline Kael along the lines of "I don't know anyone who voted for Ronald Ragan". It is this kind of insularity of the liberal media elite that comes through loud and clear to manstream Americans.
Second I think people on the left and right find them entertaining. I find it fascinating that their most severe critcs know what they are up to in great detail. You do not pay that much attention to a given individual if they don't entertain you on some level.
Because Democrats and Liberals have better things to do than sit around on their asses and listen to people tell them what and how to think.
Except when The View, the Daily Show, the Colbert Report, Keith Olbermann, Rachel Maddow, Chris Matthews, Sixty Minutes, or any of the broadcast "news" reports are on.
One could logically conclude that most DemLibs are pure gluteous maximus. They certainly all sound alike...
First of all, you might be mistaking right wing with "conservative" and there is a huge difference.
Why do you hear right wing talk shows as being popular, well duh, they tell those that already agree with their view what they want to hear.
The sad truth is that there are actually few truly "conservative" voices out here. most are just ratings whores in the tradition of Beck, Olberman, and Stern
...and even fewer liberal whores out there, that anyone cares to hear from.

...and how many of the "conservative" talk show hosts identify themselves as belonging to a political party? I cannot even think of one that refers to themselves as a republican. They may agree with, and lean towards republicans more, but I can't think of one that is a "party man".

When you compare the entire population of the U.S. with the amount of people listening at one time, it is really a small percentage. They are really not that popular.
