as a side note, how would you know if the woman you're dating had an abortion or was never pregnant, other than dating a complete virgin? does it come up on the first date or something?

I never really directly ask. It's always come out because the women I've dated feel comfortable around me. Heard of the saying regarding honey and vinegar, right? The one and only time it's happened was after a couple of beers. After then, I started acting like a jack*** so she'd dump me.
To head off the argument that she could be hiding it from me, that's easily detected based on the inherent personality of the woman, how bluntly honest she is, how much she adopts the "you can't have your cake and eat it too" adage, etc.

I guess it depends on your perspective. If you think that neither of us never being responsible for a pregnancy is "sheltered", then so be it.
