They could send Jerry Brown to New Jersey to be an intern in the office of Governor Chris Christie for a few weeks, maybe he'll get some ideas.
The idea of putting illegals and criminals in Alcatraz isn't a bad idea. Just drop them off with no food and tell them if they can swim, they're free to go.
Either way, the mass exodus of California has begun. Neighboring states had better take notice.

I wish, but they're already getting one of sorts. The feds are paying for their UE extensions since the state is broke and can't afford it to the tune of $40 Million PER DAY. Although it's considered a federal "loan" to Cali, nobody is expecting them to repay it.

And come 2011 the UE benefits for part time workers that the Fed has been paying becomes a state burden. More loans from the Fed ?

And "lifelongMOgal" your state has been taking money from California for as long as it existed. Don't act like you don't live in a welfare state.
Texas's budget is 2 years as has been posted numerous times here on CD...

Texas a welfare state compared to CA????

It was painfully obvious that the State budget that Schwarzeneggar the Inept and the Democratic State legislature passed was a farce. Now incoming Gov. Brown has some painful decisions to make.

The Democrats will be in charge and they will have to face reality and the Public Workers Unions and their Liberal base that massive cuts are coming.

Hopefully Brown will live up to his campaign promises or the Feds will have to step in.
California will be our Greece. That $25 billion is only 5% of what the state is in debt for. Their public sector unions have soaked the state for half a trillion dollars in unfunded pension and benefit liabilities. Which is ironic now that Brown will be the old, new governor, since he was the one who allowed the state employees to unionize.

They have no other option, the state needs to file for bankruptcy and expunge all the union contracts, and redo them in a more sustainable and realistic manner.
