Please reference a verse in the Bible that would support the idea that Jesus was a liberal.
How about these? Sounds pretty darned liberal/socialist to me.
Matthew 5:43-47 Love your enemies
Matthew 22:36-40 Love your neighbor as yourself
Matthew 5:3-12 Blessed are the peacemakers
Matthew 7:12 Do unto others
"Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me."

More evidence that Jesus Christ is a liberal.
So liberals are the only ones that believe this. LOLs.
You have to be a liberal to believe in the "love thy neighbor as thyself" verse. LOLs.
Let's look at "Blessed are the Peacemakers"
WW1
WW2
Korea
Vietnam
Somalia
Kosovo
Bosnia
All wars that the U.S. got involved in while having liberal commander-in-chiefs.
Iraq, Panama, Iraq2, Afghanistan. All wars supported by liberals.
But liberals are peacemakers? I'd hate to see how many wars we would have been in had liberals not been "peacemakers". LOLs.
Jesus was about as anti-government as one could be. To say he believed in any type of big government is naive.

It's more about adhering to the "religion of their fathers" than it is the teachings of Jesus Christ. It's the same with small-minded people in any culture. What's funny about what the OP said is that since the nature of republicans/conservatives and the teachings of Jesus are so diametrically opposed, the hypocrisy really shines through.
I believe that many who hold certain moral beliefs based on their religion & their interpretation of their religious writings actually think politicians can legislate to those beliefs. I think it's a false hope, but they don't find it out until after they pull the lever in the voting booth. I doubt that any US government will successfully pass a law & get it through a Supreme Court challenge that restricts or takes away personal practices based on one group's religious beliefs.
I am a cynic and believe those who pander to those groups know that and are using them solely to get elected on moral issues they can seldom effect.

I tend to agree with that. There is only a small percentage of wealthy people, which is who republican leaders really care about, not enough to get someone elected so they use religious values to get enough people to vote for them.
II could just say that the reason True Christians are Republicans is because the democrat party is a freak show full of disparate groups that despise Christianity. ie; feminists, homosexuals, secular humanists, socialist,environmentalists,etc........But that would be to easy. The real deal is Christians are about personal responsibility & self control ,also things that are taboo in the democrat party.
Really, even environmentalists despise Christianity? People who fall into the groups you listed don't despise Christianity, just because everyone doesn't share a religion hardly means they despise it or want to destroy it. Many people in those groups are Christians. In general democrats don't want laws and government based on religion, and believe there should be a separation between church and state, this isn't the same as being anti-religion. If government is based on one religion and it's values it can infringe on the freedom of all religion that is so important to our country.
The Christians in cities like Los Angeles are heavily Democratic and among certain denominations such as Black Baptist churches and Latino Catholic churches you would likely not find one person who would ever vote for a Republican. Among white folks in LA the majority are the most liberal in the city and many are Episcopalians and Jews.
