My local news (NBC aff.) just ran a story about gun control and mental illness, etc. Let's take away the rights of millions of responsible firearm owners over the actions of less than 1%.

The very suggestion of some to force those who have become poor & collect UE or welfare to get drug testing is also taking someones rights away.
What comes around goes around.
Don't school me & try to explain that 'it's not the same'. It is.

When we take rights away from anyone in this country & force them to comply, we are actually opening the door for more & more rules. Eventually those who suggest such things will also become effected.

I don't see anything wrong with trying to prevent the seriously mentally ill from buying guns.

Sane people are responsible gun owners.

Insane people have no business having access to any firearms.

There has GOT to be a way to prevent the mentally ill dangerous people from buying firearms. How can anyone oppose that? I don't know how it can be done, but, it's a no-brainer.

I'm a liberal but am not anti-gun; I'd get one if I thought I needed it. I do support the second amendment but you won't see me at a gun show (no need or interest).

Guys in gangs would get a gun anyway but this guy bought his legally - there's got to be a way.

True there should be a way but with that you'll need to find a way to stop all the other insane people out there from killing others with all objects.Like testing drivers over a certain age because we all know most people lose their reflexes and their motor skills as they age.A car is just as dangerous if not more, you only get an eye test every 5 years to renew your drivers license. So as long as you can see you can get behind the wheel of a 2+ ton weapon without testing any of your physical or mental motor skills. When renewing your handgun license your info goes through federal and local background checks,I guess they could start linking medical records to these.Fact is you cannot place blame on an object but only the insane person that's behind that object.

What does "blame" have to do with it?

I don't "blame" cars for DUI accidents. I still prefer that drunks not be allowed to drive.

Not too many political assassinations are carried out by guys using tire irons or baseball bats.
Like it or not, handgun reform will be up on the national stage again.
