When I started Kindergarten, there was a brief school prayer to start the day. By the time I entered first grade, it was gone. To be truthful, as a child I didn't really miss it at all.
Students can and DO already pray. Silent prayer is heard by God just as well as public prayer.
While I am not in favor of forced prayer, I am in favor of a moment of silence to start the day. A moment of silence can be a positive, calming, cleansing sort of event to begin the day. It can be used for prayer if the student/staff wants to, or not.
How do you feel about public school prayers? As most of you know, school prayers were declared unconstitutional back in 1962 and there have been attempts to bring it back. I honestly would support bringing it back.
I would be interested to know what percentage of those peope cited above even go to church once a week.
The most widely reported statistic is 40% which is based on self-report alone.
The actual attendance rates of churches probably point to a lower number.
Anyway, my point is if these people are too lazy to take their kids to church, why is school prayer such a big deal?
They can pray at home, or on any day of the week outside of school.
They can pray internally to themselves 24 hours a day anywhere.
School is for the three R's and beyond.
Leave faith and spiritualism at home or at places of worship - where it belongs

Because it's what society tells them they're 'supposed' to do. They're 'supposed' to tell people they're Christians even though most probably haven't set foot in a church in years, haven't read the bible and in general have no idea WHY they're a certain religion...they just are.
Many also believe you can only be a moral and good person if you're a certain sect of religion, so that's what they are, regardless if they actually believe or practice it.
Just a thought, I find it interesting that the poll claims a number of 65% approving of school prayer, bet yet here on a discussion board made up of both conservatives and liberals over 71% say No. Makes me wonder if one of these polls is getting it wrong somehow and which would I trust as truth?

If the kids want to pray on their own time, fine. My school had religious groups that would meet at lunch or after school hours, I have no problem with that. During class or shortening classes to allow time for prayer? No, thanks.
I see nothing wrong with allowing students to pray on their own and using their own time.
That's already allowed. What the OP is talking about is reviving the old practice of having Christian prayers every day in school where children were practically mandated to take part because they'd be ostracized if they didn't.
