As is being evidenced right now in WI, the employees definitely need protection from the whims of a politician with a plan that has nothing to do with running the Govt. That's seems quite clear, don't you think?
It's just like Obamacare. At least we got some people in Congress that are trying to get rid of it. A piece of legislation that was nothing more than the whim of a politician.
As has been stated numerous times in this thread, the whole purpose of Walker's madness is to squash the unions. As you may recall the Citizens United v Federal Elections Commission allowed corporate to donate unlimited amounts of money to candidates, and with the public not even knowing where these donations originated. This will undoubtedly lead to the powerful or even foreign nations buying candidates. Those backing the decision argued that it also allowed Unions the same. By eliminating the Unions the playing field has become out of balance. No longer will candidates have to debate the issues, one side will simply dominate the airwaves.

Would you say the same about Ohio, Indiana, Nevada, Tennessee ?
Their state governments are also considering ending collective bargaining with unions.
When there is no money and the unions won't budge...then the state governments need to do what it takes so they can balance their budgets.

Of course I would say the same thing about the aforementioned states, as well as any other state. The Unions have said they would negotiate the employee contribution on benefits. Walker and the republican led legislature has refused to do this, as they want to end the union's right to collective bargaining.

Now..but previously it took up to 15 months to get a contract signed.
Just last August the union was going to sue the state if the state didn't pay $750K for their Viagra.
Now that legislation is on the table to be voted the unions are "ready to negotiate" ????
The union had their chance with Walker and blew it.
Oh, my god, that's so true. Around 8% of the US population self employed (truly self employed as in it is their sole income source) and yet virtually every conservative here claims they are self employed, independently wealthy, and have a PHd. The entire US population of self employed people with advanced degrees must post here as conservative; either that or the vast majority of them are just plain lying.
Or they claim to be owners of "very successful businesses" ........I have often wondered WHEN they spend time running those businesses.
Most are probably just "employees" or retired and yet they hate the unions and do the "heavy lifting" for billionaires like the Koch brothers. Once again, people working against their own best interests. Amazing.
Argue and speculate all you wish, this is finally the beginning of the end for unions. Obama's corruption is even going to bring down the unions that put him in office.
There are too many smart people in the country for us to be taken over by Obama's socialist corruption. He thought he could out smart the people, but he isn't even competent enough to be a good crook.
Soon the unions and Obama will be a thing of the past and the country will be back on the right path.
The ignorant left can thank us once you open you eyes and see how foolish you were to side with a dictator...!!
Funny thing about the labor movement, since the middle of the 19th century, folks like the Kochs and these reactionary governors have used everything from armed thugs to the Supreme Court to destroy unions and nothing in that long history has been able to defeat working men and women from joining together to advance the rights of working people. They have succeed to hold unions a bay for periods of time, but they have never, will never, destroy the American labor movement. That's a fact that I would bet my life on.
Lets overpay lazy or unskilled workers and steal from the same business that gave them a weekly paycheck.
Its the union way and one that killed places like Detroit and Pittsburgh.
And we can force people to pay unions dues when most of them do not want to anyway.
You don't really know your history, do you? Maybe through rose-colored glasses?
We can talk about this civilly, if you want, maybe learn a few things. But i doubt that's ever been your intention. I may be, in the slightest, mistaken, but we'll see.
Sincerely,
anonymous UAW worker
