Perhaps nothing so illustrates President Obama’s occasional disconnect with reality than his fervent advocacy of high-speed rail. Amid mounting pressure for budget cuts that affect existing programs, including those for the inner city, the president has made his $53 billion proposal to create a national high-speed rail network as among his top priorities.
Our President may be an intelligent and usually level-headed man, but this represents a serious case of policy delusion. As Robert Samuelson pointed out in Newsweek, high-speed rail is not an appropriate fit for a country like the U.S. Except for a few areas, notably along the Northeast Corridor, the U.S. just lacks the density that would make such a system work. Samuelson calls the whole idea “a triumph of fancy over fact.”
Has anyone checked to see if this proposal is a way to funnel money to his union cronies?
It seems all or most of his proposed NEW work has unions in the scopes. I think he's smart enough to know to stay clear of a paper trail that could lead to his favortism towards unions, although its quite clear. I think if you look at the massive stimulas money that went out you will find plenty of it going to unions.
But this is my guess, I have no facts nor did I research. I'm just going off of the typical profile of a liberal Demo-crat with political power.
(Not to be confused with a liberal or a democratic citizen)

In the movie "Dr. Strangelove", Col Jack Ripper who unilaterally launched the US nuclear strike on the Soviets was obsessed with fluoridation in the water contaminating his precious bodily fluids.
Obama's obsession with high speed rail is kind of like that.
To Fair they weren't really Obama's ideas....these ideas have been around since the late 90s.... The only problem we have now is the Northeast is underfunded.....but is the most used network.....the Fed / Lahood should have made the NE a priority which was supported by alot of Republicans but instead we had to wait till now....
