I think alot of people always get WWJD confused with WSGD(What Should Government Do). I always see threads about "Was Jesus a socialist" and the like, posted on C-D. Thing is, Jesus taught to treat your fellow man with love not hate, forgive those that spite you, love your enemies, etc. Nowhere in the Bible does Jesus reference any secular government enity to do this as a whole. He speaks of man doing this on his own. IMO, Jesus did not intend for man to be forced(government) to do things that should come natural to him. We as a whole, are to help our fellow man in times of need. There are some "church leaders" that want to bring politics into Christian settings and this is wrong, IMO. Leave politics out, leave government out, and make this place a better one for yourself and your family, on your own......
So Jesus said we should eliminate credit cards and loans. A modern capitalist society might have problems competing in a global market on those terms.
I use credit cards. I pay them off every month. That's not the issue. I have the money to pay it.
The point is that our federal government is in debt, and continues to budget to spend more than we take in. So to start with, I would suggest that Jesus would tell us to stop spending money.
Quote:
And Jesus' Apostle said if you are laid off through no fault of your own, or disabled, or very old, you die of starvation.
Anything else Jesus would do about fixing our budget problems?
Paul wrote that if a person refuses to work, he should not eat. That doesn't describe a huge number of people in our welfare system now. yes--we need to help people in need, but I don't know that it's the government's responsibility to feed everyone.

I say farther back than 2008, to be honest. Bush is as guilty of it as obama.
Balancing the federal budget at the expense of the poor would be un-Christian, evangelical leaders warned Congress on Thursday (March 3) as they work to reject proposed spending cuts to domestic and foreign aid.
this kind of people are not really christians, they are social justuce people not christians at all, phony chirstians!! Jesus woulds say to the government let people give from their free will. if you believe Jesus is god then he could have made evryone give because has the power to do so. but he chose to let people exercise their free will to give or not to give. very simple!! the federal budget can be balanced on the backs of those that fraud and abuse the system, does not have to be on the backs of poor people,we just have to make sure the poor are actually poor before getting help!!

Sadly, the churches should be doing this stuff instead of government. Instead of pushing for government to do it, these guys should be trying to mobilize the churches.
Jesus would cut food assistance to the children of poor mothers, medical treatment of the poor, family planning services, support for volunteer programs, funding for the arts, and programs that clean the environment and protect people's heath above all else.
