The "epic struggle" between good and evil, the cornerstone of English Lit 101.

consider this: WI protesters represent all that is reactionary by insisting on the 50 year status quo. Taxpayers represent change and progress against the entrenched and corrupt political machine.

Time has marched on and the progressives have become stale tired cartoons of their former selves. The liberal dinosaurs are eating themselves.

The prime need is to change the conditions which enable these men to accumulate power which it is not for the general welfare that they should hold or exercise. We grudge no man a fortune which represents his own power and sagacity, when exercised with entire regard to the welfare of his fellows. Again, comrades over there, take the lesson from your own experience. Not only did you not grudge, but you gloried in the promotion of the great generals who gained their promotion by leading their army to victory. So it is with us. We grudge no man a fortune in civil life if it is honorably obtained and well used. It is not even enough that it should have been gained without doing damage to the community. We should permit it to be gained only so long as the gaining represents benefit to the community. This, I know, implies a policy of a far more active governmental interference with social and economic conditions in this country than we have yet had, but I think we have got to face the fact that such an increase in governmental control is now necessary.

"No man should receive a dollar unless that dollar has been fairly earned. Every dollar received should represent a dollar’s worth of service rendered-not gambling in stocks, but service rendered. The really big fortune, the swollen fortune, by the mere fact of its size, acquires qualities which differentiate it in kind as well as in degree from what is possessed by men of relatively small means. Therefore, I believe in a graduated income tax on big fortunes, and in another tax which is far more easily collected and far more effective-a graduated inheritance tax on big fortunes, properly safeguarded against evasion, and increasing rapidly in amount with the size of the estate."

-- Theodore Roosevelt, The New Nationalism, 1910
The really big fortune, the swollen fortune, by the mere fact of its size, acquires qualities which differentiate it in kind as well as in degree from what is possessed by men of relatively small means.

Teddy Roosevelt (Republican) understood this even as far back as 100 years ago! And 100 years later we still aren't paying heed to his presciently wise words of warning. And our country's economy is suffering for it. The wealthy have been stealing from the working class for decades so they can use their wealth to wield power to control government to do their bidding and become even wealthier. All at the expense and on the backs of the people who actually do the work that lines their pockets with gold.

Stunning. Absolutely stunning.

Tell that to this guy, why don't you?
"On any given day in the Control Center, you will probably find me serving as the radio dispatcher for about 130 security staff transmitting on 10 separate channels, directing emergency first responders, arranging security escorts for a myriad of visitors including chapel volunteers, judges, attorneys, detectives and parole officers.

. . .

Like most Wisconsin CO's, I work on five out of every seven weekends with no regard for national holidays or religious sabbaths. Most of the posts in our joint are manned 24-7. We have ample opportunities to work overtime, so ample in fact, that oftentimes the Shift Captain will have to order the most junior officers to work double shifts or even come in on their scheduled days off. At some Wisconsin prisons it is not unusual for a new officer to go for months without a day off, working doubles and wondering why they took this crazy job. The high stress level and punishing hours lead to high turnover. Those who stick it out pay a price. The strain on one's health and personal relationships is brutal. Well over half of the CO's I know have been divorced at least once and four of them have committed suicide."
It's really despicable to portray fellow working Americans in the vile, filthy terms you use. You have no effing clue what the hell you're spewing about, you've just been whipped up into an anger frenzy by those who want to wield power and know how to obtain it by turning us against each other.

Knock it off.
Jill, I have challenged a repug to walk up to a teacher and face to face, eye to eye, say the same sort of things they say in here....they haven't got the courage.....they think up silly excuses to worm out of it but their cowardice is obvious...

I'd really like to see them try walking up to that Corrections Officer and calling him a puke who doesn't know the meaning of the word 'work'. I don't think they'd live to see tomorrow.

Oh, every politician seems to get compared to Hitler and/or called a fascist. Look at all the threads with picures of Obama with a little Hitler moustache. Also look at all the Tea Party posters with same.

I personally think it's inappropriate to compare anyone to Hitler.

Could be they cannot take off work and fly out there.
If you don't live there and pay taxes..it's only your opinion of what should be done.

It's up to the voters in WI. Elections come round again. If they really don't like it they will vote in change. Seems they didn't like what was going on before as they voted in change just this past November.

Like it or not..it's politics at work and the people of the state vote in the politics.

LOL! "Speaks volumes", "spewing (fill in the blank)", "frothing at the mouth", blah, blah, blah. All the little catch phrases of some of our favorite RW posters.

This is all true and a reasonable assessment of the situation.

Thank you for the search you did and then reporting what you and I had read from the poster who calls us 5th grade intelligence type people.

I am not allowed to rep you but will let it be like this.
