I respect people based on the nuance and depth of their thinking as an individual, regardless of what political label is affixed to them. "Moderate" is way too vague to mean anything in the context of your post, especially since you place it against two caricatures.

They represent the silent majority too busy making a living, and taking care of their own, so what's there to respect?
If that's what they want, they need to sign up to either fringe extreme, for that.
There are fewer moderate than there used to be, due I think to the anger and fear of the economic situation and the apparent lack of political will to work on solutions. When people are in fear and anger, anybody who has an opinion that differs from their own, becomes an enemy, not a potential ally to a solution.
There is nothing to respect about Constitutional inconsistency. So no, I do not respect so called "moderates".
What you may feel is Constitutional inconsistency, someone else may feel is Constitutional consistency. To disrespect someones else opinion, does not reflect poorly on the person you disrespect.
It seems like everyone is either a "f**k everyone else but me" Tea Partier or a "tax the rich until urban problems are all solved" progressive.
