They would never do that. I mean it's not like the US spends more on military and "defense" than the rest of the world combined, lol.

I tried to pay attention when Obama talked about cutting defense. I thought he was aiming at 20-30 Billion per year, maybe more.

Not sure but if I heard him correctly, and did the math correctly, it looks like about a 5+% haircut.

We really need out of the Bush 'Wag the Dog' middle east wars.

Fat chance the right cut a penny from the bloated defense spending.
So let me get this straight. Lefties think the job of protecting the country should NOT be what our tax dollars should be used for. But providing abortions to poor women, putting on cowboy poetry festivals and frog statues ARE? OK, got it.

Yes, the military budget should be quadrupled. America wants to dominate the world.

Some hawks make me think of an 800 pound gorilla that feels threatened by a 97 pound weakling.

If I had to describe our national attitude at times, it might be "bullies." A lot of us are bullies.

To the OP....No, the neo-Republican Party is more fiscally irresponsible than the Democratic Party. Look at their 40 year track record regarding the deficit.

We the People are our Country.

Protecting our country from enemies within and outside of our borders is proper under the general welfare clause in the constitution.

Support for war mongering is not a priority to anyone except for fellow military industrial complex profiteers and their cohorts.

Now quit petting that frog.

Wow, it's like a cut and paste talking point from Beck and fox news.

The #1 pork barrel spending is military. The right wing goons shaft the taxpayers to keep the defense contractors well paid, not to mention their insatiable blood lust for war. All at the same time slashing benefits and health care to our military heroes. If the right were truly about lowering the deficit, military would be the first thing on the list which ironically enough the right doesn't want to touch (who'd a thunk it)

Secondly it's against federal law to use government funds for abortions. Facts are hard things to understand for some, I know,..

As for the cowboy poetry and frog statue gatherings that sound like the rootin' tootin' tea party festival at cousin Darnell's roadhouse, home of the deep south's finest fried roadkill Yeeeeeeeeee ha!

Since federal funds can't be used for abortions, I'm not sure I get your point.

As for cutting the defense budget, you do know the difference between cut and eliminate? If you do, then you can appreciate that an area that the only portion of the Federal budget that is equal in size is Social Security, both of which comprise 40% of the federal budget.

Now, as much as reactionaries would seem to think, spending on the poor, cowboy poetry festivals and frog statues weren't the causes of the deficit, so if you are going to cut where better than in those areas where fractional reductions are more easily found, unless of course you think that there are no areas in the defense spending the country can't now afford.
