Shocking PPP poll released yesterday:

Trump 26%
Huckabee 17%
Romney 15%
Newt Gingrich 11%
Sarah Palin 8%
Ron Paul 5%
T-Paw 4%
Bachmann 4%

Quote:
"23 percent of GOP primary voters say they will only support a someone who doubts President Barack Obama's birthplace, and among those voters, Trump is surging."
Donald Trump tops in new 2012 GOP poll - Maggie Haberman - POLITICO.com

By simply ignoring the shrill conservative conspiracy theorists who claim Obama wasn't born in Hawaii, is this a sly tactic on Obama's part to pave the way for a "birther" candidate (like Trump) to win the GOP nomination? Or, at the very least, to create deep fractures within the GOP field between the "birther" and non-birther wings of the GOP primary voters and candidates?

Totally genius strategy, if you ask me.

As a politician I'm sure he's trying to use ANY division in the Republican Party to his disadvantage. The same way they do Dems.

Not a chance in hell. Democrats are not known for exceptional foresight. Further, this President is reactive, not pro-active. Given that he's been behind the curve his entire Presidency, its not possible that he contrived anything remotely related to a "birther" opponent in 2012.

True that he may or may not be behind the curve as a President but the reason he's President is because he revolutionized campaigning. Let's not cut the man short...

"Is Barack Obama a political genius?"

Terminal kool-aid overdose.

And neither are Republicans.

Correct. But by not releasing his "long form" BC, and pretty much keeping silent on the issue, is all he has to do to keep the issue alive, and let the shrill, tinfoil-hat wearing birthers tear the GOP apart...hence the meteoric rise of Tho Donald.

Correct. Shrill, bug-eyed conservative birthers have most definitely overdosed on the kool-aide.
