It's funny that we have been having Government since what? the 1600's, give or take....and yet we are no better now. You would think after all this time America would have it down to a science and everybody would be proepering.

The we get a new president, and the first thing they all say is they have to undo what has been done before, yet 4 years is never enough they all claim they need more time....then in comes another president and he says the same thing.

Something is really wrong here, the people managing the countries finances are really not doing such a great job.....

Sorry, NOT WRONG, the top 400, people making over $200 million on average, only pay 18.1% of their taxable income toward Federal income taxes. FACT. http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-soi/08intop400.pdf

Someone making $200,000 a year pays 19.6%
Someone making $500,000 a year pays 23.4%
Someone making one million a year pays 24.1%
Someone making two million a year pays 24%
Someone making five million a year pays 22.9%
Someone making ten million a year pays 19.8%
And the top 400, those Golden ones pay 18.1% Less percentage wise that someone making $200,000 a year.

I comprehend far more than you. Reagunomics has been a failure. If handing out a never ending stream of tax cuts to the top earners was supposed to trickle down and spur growth when is that going to get started?

It is easy to see where we veered off course. Face it, Reagunomics CAUSED the current debt crisis. To BEGIN to fix the mess to to undo what Reagumonics did to tax policies.

Fixing the debt is not an overnight proposition, it is going to take years to resolve the follies of the past. But handing out more tax cuts to the wealthy is NOT going to fix anything. Did NOT work, never has. It is time to go back to the post-WWII tax structures that gave us a strong middle class and allowed us to "pay down" (albeit, through GDP growth) the post war debt.

all the RESULT of reagunomics.

FYI, as of 2004 the top 25%, the wealthiest 25% of US households owned 87% ($43.6 trillion) of the country’s wealth, while the bottom 25% held no net wealth at all.

It is easy to see where the money to pay off the debt is. We could pay off the debt overnight.

To balance the budget:

Raise the taxes on the rich back to where they were when Reagan took office;
Bring back the millions of factory jobs;
Close the offshore tax havens, Enron had 900 of 'em.

Simple, huh? Those old enough to remember the seventies will recall those great days when all of the above took place & the country ran wonderfully.

i will say that republicans have been a little dense on this issue and i wonder why. they need to cut the size of government, and they know it, but i am thinking that they like all those perks and freebies too.

we should start with the reduction of government and growth of the private sector-which produces the revenue that funds everybody.

1) tax breaks only for companies which stay within the united states

2) labeling products so people remember to buy american.

3) using some of that excess government land and buildings and letting people use it for free if they have a business plan which will generate jobs-for a finite period of time- and then they have to go implement it in the real world if it works.

4) control of illegal immigration or it won't matter what else we do.

5) start developing natural gas now. convert cars that want conversion and build stations. it would greatly reduce the cost of merchandise transportation in this country also.

6) drilling creates good paying jobs now.

7) eliminate the EPA.

8) cut 10% of government paychecks and funnel that money directly into job creation-even if it is infrastructure. i wonder if the government can live by the same rules that the private sector has to-call it a government tax back to the people.

9) implement projects smaller, instead of bigger, to see what actually works before you try it on a national level.

10) change the tax system-flat or fair tax, i don't care

11) audit the federal reserve and find out where the money is going.

12) bring our troops home and put them on the borders if we have to until immigration is controlled.

13) take away the power of the zoning people and allow businesses to flourish

14) no foreign aid

15) no immigration at all until our financial house is in order.

pretty much the opposite of globalism, i guess. when we get back on track, then issues could be revisited.

there are a lot of good ideas out there, but too bad nobody seems to use them. instead, we will just keep printing money until we see a collapse somewhere-and it will happen, only question is when.

let me add, factory rat, it is impossible to put the genie back in the bottle. those jobs aren't coming back, but we can create jobs here just as easy.

you are repeating a MEANINGLESS stat. SO WHAT? So, 50% of American are so poor that they don't make enough money to qualify for the honor of paying FEDERAL INCOME TAXES. GET A CLUE, they don't pay that tax because they are POOR. They do pay payroll taxes (at a higher rate than the rich), state taxes, local taxes, property taxes, etc...

52% make $30,000 or more. The secret is out, everyone making $30k pays taxes. SHOCKER, people living paycheck to paycheck at minimum wage DON'T pay Federal income taxes, HOW DARE THEY. You think the poor should stop eating so they can pay more while the uber wealthy can earn a few dollars more?

The 400 top earners pay 18.1% of the income toward Federal Income tax, while EVERYONE else down to $200,000 is paying a higher rate, as much as 25%.

yeah, GREAT POST there aero, real insightful...
