Both of my children were exposed to religious dogma by their public school teachers. One suggested to my diabetic child that prayer could cure diabetes.

So, is this quote of yours below, supposed to be the "concrete evidence" that has replaced the "antiquated pre-scientific ideals that have no relevance to modern biology and psychology of anyone who disagrees with you?

"We have stories and archeology to find out such behavior. Not to mention animal studies to determine that homosexuality is seen in nature."

I guess that settles it. Proof that Barny and Fred were more than just friends.

At age 5 I was to small to do anything about it. My folks were deep in their own problems which ended in divorce. This event called Christmas vacation came to be, and at that point I no longer went to school. The school called sometime in March wondering where I was.

My grandparents saw to put me in several other schools, but at 4th grade i returned to the same public system and was bullied buy a boy 2 years older than me, also bigger than me, but in the same grade as me.

The way that ended was i punched him in the face, breaking his nose and 2 front teeth. I still bear the scars on my left hand from doing that. All I can tell you is that dead ended all the bullying from that day on for a long while.

Somethings just need to get sorted out the way things get sorted out. Not everyone is normal, not everyone is equal, and some folks will just have to suck that up. I sure don't fit into any cookie cutter mold myself at 59 years, but then I never wanted to in the first place.

Wow, someone should have put the teacher in the trash can and set it on fire. That's awful.

I also agree with you, though. We can and should teach kids about other people, understanding that there are different people out there (it's not always about sexuality, too).. but we also need to teach kids to stand up for themselves, too. I can't say we should tell them to just start throwing punches immediately after being insulted, lol, but still.

These issues are never totally one sided, and it's a shame so many people live with their head in the sand because they hate that other kinds of people exist.

A thousand times this. Although if we start with the younger generation in a few decades, we won't need one for the adults.

But please fill me in: Considering that I never even stated an opinion on the matter of gender reassignment in this thread -- please enlighten me. What are these misgivings I have apparently have as a parent? And exactly how did you come to the conclusion that I've failed as a parent when you know nothing about me? Look into your crystal ball. Is there any hope for me?

I think you're just knee-jerk reacting just for reaction's sake.

My own personal experience would seem to point to this being a bad idea. No I was not all in favor of people playing grab-ass all the time. At the time I thought that the Superintendent had a good point. But ultimately it didn't matter what my opinion was. Immaturity and childishness ruled the day because kids will be kids. Good luck getting them to be anything else. I can deal with my own kids, but that is all.

Fascinating! So the very beginning of humankind was right around .... 2900 BC to 2500 BC. Well that clears up all sorts of misconceptions I had. The stone tower in Jericho dating to 8000 BC and the Pyramids were clearly built by aliens. The same must be true of Stone Henge and everything pre-dating it. How could humans have built it if they were just getting started in 2900 BC at the earliest? Since there were no humans before 2900 BC, clearly it had to be space aliens!

Like I already said, I'm not even taking sides one way or the other as yet and I don't think I will. But a burial find that isn't even prehistoric isn't telling us jack squat about homosexuality being a constant since the beginning of humankind. You'd need to find something a lot older than that. And while this may seem compelling that this guy was buried with womanly stuff, it hardly eliminates the possibility that it's all there for completely different reasons and had nothing to do with homosexuality at all. Maybe it was somebody who a lot of people hated and wanted to disgrace by burying them as a woman? Who knows?

Sorry if I'm playing too much devil's advocate here but you're making it too easy.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. You must be a blissful person, if the saying is correct.

The misgivings you, and others have as parents are instilling hatred against a group of people. Rather than rectifying the situation, you want to perpetuate the whole "icky" argument for homosexuality as well as gender identity.

Look, I don't personally like trans-gendered people, but they exist. They may give me the creeps a little, but just because I'm uncomfortable doesn't mean that they have to bow down to my whim.

My brother is a little creeped out by homosexuality, but he accepts me and doesn't make me feel like I'm a freak.

You are to set an example of how to get along with others in this world. If you, plural, truly have the feelings that you stated...you fail as parents. Plain and simple.

Okay, so we have records of homosexuality spanning the ages. We also know from animal studies that it's not a new thing. Did I state that this was the beginning of homosexuality. I didn't. So that begs the question why are you basing your argument on something that wasn't said?

BTW, it is prehistoric. The first pyramids were built around 2700 BCE, 200 years after this caveman. Stonehenge was built in the prehistoric era. Prehistory only truly denotes a time before the written record.

You're not being a good devil's advocate due to your lack of historical knowledge as well as your misguided views.

Good for you. You punched somebody senseless. Great, violence begetting violence.

Nobody is saying that violence will end. However once you have accepted violence for one group of people, that translates to a whole host of social problems and a fragmented society.

Just simply letting the matter "sort itself out" is why people in the minority often have challenges that go beyond the playground. The bullies grow up, vote, have jobs, some of them become successful. Hence things like Jim Crow, Prop 8, and the fact that the Lilly Leadbetter Act was met with some resistance.

The thing is that society simply cannot function in such a fragmented way. Cohesion is only achieved via education about different types of people.

I'd hardly call Freud, a "Jewish zombie."
