Soquel High students suspended for wearing white after racist incidents on campus - Santa Cruz Sentinel

I believe that "after racial incidents on campus is the key here, and not simply that the kids innocently wore white tees.

I disagree with the school's actions in this case, but there is no question that the school has the right to do it. Schools act in loco parentis, and children do not have the same rights that adults have, especially when under parental control. How many parents have punished a child for a suspected action - they just know the kid did it, but they have no proof?

Ok..so guilty until proven innocent and suspend them anyway.
So how does one go about proving their innocence when they are accused of being part of a supremist group ?

Do you send your kids to school wearing white tshirts ?

He could have suspended the entire class. That way he would have been sure to punish anyone who had racist thoughts.

The principal is an idiot.

Does that mean he wasn't in on "the joke"? Those kids thought it was a funny prank.

Apparently, the kids were suspected of being members of a "white supremisist" group. But, one of the boys is Asian! Can't wait to hear more on this doozie of a story.
Thats just stupid, I hope they sue the school.

That's where the actual parents come in; they can help their children appeal.

I read that, and read about his grandparents being interred during WW II.
I only pointed out that there "had been racial incidents on campus." That seemed to foster a feeling of fear among the students whose race or religion was targeted in such instances. That doesn't seem unreasonable. No need to attack the messenger, folks.
