New York City outdoor smoking ban begins - CNN.com
I don't agree with that but it's not at bad as I thought it would be.

You can still walk down the sidewalk or drive in your car and smoke.

It's not a total public ban.

Seems like Vancouver is doing the same...crazy since everytime I'm in Vancouver I have seen people smoking grass in public (especially within parks and beaches).

Not that I am condoning either, but as a person who respects freedom and personal liberty this does not sit well with me.

YET! Some cities have banned smoking in apartments and townhouses. Government control over people's personal lives is a slow creep. A few decades ago it was considered insane to think the government would ban smoking in privately owned businesses. A decade ago it was considered insane that the government would ban smoking in bars and casinos. Now it's considered insane that the government would ban smoking in our home and cars or out in open spaces. Oops, open spaces is out with smoking bans in some city parks and beaches. Oops, smoking bans in cars carrying children is in place already. Guess what the next step of government's creeping control of people's lives is going to be. They use "public good" as an excuse for more and more control over our lives. I never smoked but I do recognize the ever loss of personal freedom which will eventually go directly into what we do in our private home.

I think Bloomberg pays people to vote for him. But them again he had them change term limits so he could have his way longer.
