Just a question? Will you be able to pay if you get a catastropic illness? I realize some people can afford to do that. I would not be able to. When I was 30, I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer. It wasn't caused by me abusing myself, eating poorly, smoking or anything. As far as they know, just a spontaneous cancer so I could not have prevented it.
It wasn't a cheap disease to treat and I couldn't have paid the whole thing myself. Do you have any suggestions for how to handle those situations?
the problem is general insurance , where everyone WANTS to have EVERY sniffle visit paid for
I think costs would go down dramaticly if we brought back hospitalization, and got rid of the standard insurance
why should you have insurance pay for a once a year check up that costs less than a hundred bucks...pay for it out of your pocket, and let the insurance cover the BIG STUFF (a hospitaliztion plan)
insurance and government is the main reason that health care costs so much

The obvious answer to the problem is only provide care to the people that can afford it. If they cannot then it is denied and nature is allowed to take its course. That is the proper way to do business.
Setup a PAYMENT PLAN with the hospital. Why do you ignore this option? You buy a house on a payment plan that costs way more than most medical procedures right?
The American Dream: Take a second mortgage of about the equal value as your house, to take care of your medical needs. It is, after all, your fault that health care costs as much as it does here. And lose your house if you can't pay your medical bills. You don't deserve it anyway.
Don't say no, because I've yet to meet an elderly who has the same complaint about doctors as you do. But assuming that is true, Medicare is expense because of it being a publicly backed private enterprise. I would prefer it be set more along the lines VA health care system is. After all, the government collects only a third or less of total Medicare expense via taxes. But we want our taxes to be low as well...
uhm

nope
medicare is expensive because it covers(only partially) the most expensive demographic

so you would prefer government employee doctors, who are not up to date on their training???
you would prefer, that doctors and nurses make minimum wage???

Thanks for clarifying. I agree with you on this. I think insurace is good for stuff that's out of the ordinary. Not for a sore throat or a check up. While those visits can cost a few hundred dollars, I *personally* could handle that.
It's the things like cancer, injuries, etc. that would concern me.

You really need to lose the Einstein part of your name here. You can pay them as much as you can afford. No need to take a "mortgage" out for it.

What? An office visit for a sore throat could cost hundreds? You are a bad shopper for doctors then.
