Jimmy Carter left for the Republican party?
Nope, but Mr. Dixiecrat Strom Thurmond sure did, among other racist segregationists. It's no co-incidence that the major southern re-alignment happened at the same time as the Civil Rights movement, isn't it.
By the way, this is the most bizarre article I have read in months! Westboro and the KKK debating over who has more moral authority. Ha!
you are using SELECTIVE facts while completely ignoring OTHER facts
1. southern democrats who supported the KKK (or joined) were CHRISTIAN CONSERVATIVES
2. those "loosers" of the civil war were also CONSERVATIVE CHRISTIANS
during the civil rights movement of the 50's and 60's ACLU LIBERALS supported black civil rights while CONSERVATIVE CHRISTIANS and KKK murdered blacks and aclu liberals in their attempt to deny freedom and rights to blacks
-______- In case you don't know, the Republicans of that time were Progressive, (not conservative) and that makes them leftist. Sucks for your logic, huh?
I do not think ACORN has a history of pulling people out of their homes and lynching them from trees as the community gathered around and applauded. I also don't remeber ACORN raping black women and bombing churches in Alabama.

1st amendment. Freedom of speech.
And, the KKK doesn't receive government support like ACORN does.

You're right on the money. Southern Democrats left the party because they were against the Civil Rights Movement and they wanted to protect their segregated way of life. So they shifted their allegiance to the Republican Party to support Goldwater, in hopes of defeating Johnson and and the Civil Rights Act.
That is how the South went from blue to red.
