Are you kidding ? Comparing Greece and Zimbabwe ? Greece is pretty-developed, it's not a poor-country (for the moment...).
And Florida's unemployment rate is lower than California's, but last year Florida's unemployment were higher than California's.
Anyway, do you know California will soon have the highest unemployment rate ? Nevada is first but its unemployment rate is diminishing pretty fast, not California's.

California...as much as Right Wingers love to bash it would have the 6th largest economy IN THE WORLD if it was a separate country.

So in a Recession of course massive economies take a deeper hit that Po-dunk hillbilly agricultural based cities/states.

the truth is that california takes more federal money per person than either florida or texas:

see page 11 and 12

the even greater truth is that our economy is in serious trouble thanks to all the government spending. the data provided is from 2009 (the last data available, thank you federal government ) and you can see the ugly trend in the charts with the cost of all services provided-that is a graph that is almost going vertical now and we all know spending has been massively ramped up since then:

Sigh, I could really use some good news about my area of GA. Since this mess has started the state has consistanly held at 10% or more and only recently dipped down to 9.8%. In my area of NE GA we remain at 11% or more, all the little towns have so many empty shops, it looks like ghost towns. Even Athens continues to have closures and layoffs. I hope some recovery heads our way soon.

California also pays MORE to the federal government than Florida. And I would expect government cost to go up as there is a rise in population and demand for services.

Over 75% of the States that receive MORE federal money than they give are RED STATES.

RED STATES are by majority WELFARE STATES as far as the federal government is concerned. Which shows how ineffective their polices are since they wouldn't be able to support themselves at current levels WITHOUT the federal government.
