Ryan Dunn (one of the stars of the Jackass series) just died yesterday because of drunk driving. He was a great man and the world will be a slightly worse place because of losing him, but god damn you have to be a ****ing IDIOT to drive drunk.
It might sound callous but if something happens to you while driving drunk, do not ***** about it. Everybody knows the risks.
e: But will drinking a single wine of glass put you over .08 BAC?
You may as well take away cell phones from everyone because that is much worse than driving with 1 beer in your system!
Don't be ridiculous. Drunk driving should remain at 0.08 BAC and above. (the equivalent of 2 beers)
What two beers? Consumed how fast? With what food in your stomach? And how big is this person? You don't know how drunk you are beyond assuming you're not too drunk to drive.
There are at least three mechanisms that help to explain this finding, Phillips said: "Compared with sober drivers, buzzed drivers are more likely to speed, more likely to be improperly seat-belted and more likely to drive the striking vehicle, all of which are associated with greater severity."
There also seems to be a strong "dose-response" relationship between all these factors, the authors write: The greater the blood-alcohol content, the greater the average speed of the driver and the greater the severity of the accident, for example.
The findings persist even when such potentially confounding variables as inattention and fatigue are excluded from the analysis.
Studies like these ^^^^........laying the groundwork for severe restrictions on drinking in the future.....just like they did with cigarettes.
Mark my word.
Nannyism is alive and well and has been embraced by Americans.
You're still impaired. Whether your reaction time is a little slower or you can't even stay on the road, you don't have the right to get drunk and put everyone else in danger.
I'll give you a gun and let you maim yourself all you want, just wait til I'm out of the room.
Except of course you aren't drunk after one drink....small point.
Wow, people are honestly trying to defend drunk driving? Even if it's not as bad as these particular numbers say, so what?
Driving should be 0% alcohol. Most Eastern bloc and Scandinavian countries are.

I don't think "being over" is the point, it's the fact that your abilities are impaired...but I suppose that would be the case with some medication too.

Agreed. It's time we had some kind of device in a vehicle that prevents phones being used when the vehicle is moving.

I don't think those factors have anything to do with the amount of blood/alcohol you have do they?

You can bet your life that if those people had a child killed by a drunk or drink-impaired driver, they would be the fist people screaming for the death penalty for drunk drivers.

Depraved indifference to manslaughter, at the very least. I'd also be more than a little bit teed off.
