The postings supporting this man is just astounding..
Worse case scenario, the man goes to the hospital, gets treated, gets denied federal assistance to pay for treatement, and he gets a negative mark on his credit report..

Current scenario, the man goes to jail, gets a felony mark against him, and he's unable to find a future job..
It's his first offense. He'll probably get probation and/or community service. The charges may even be thrown out - he clearly didn't want to rob the bank, he only wanted the free medical care he would get in prison. The money coming in from book and movie offers, plus the talk show circuit will help with the medical bills. He may also get to go on the show "The Doctors" or "Doctor Phil". I doubt this will keep him from getting a job.

I seem to remember reading once that banks and credit card companies can't consider unpaid medical bills when deciding whether or not to give you credit. The marks will be on your report, but they won't mean much.

Unfortunately we live in a society that doesn't lock up people prior to them committing a crime.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but dealing drugs IS a crime..

You mentioned murder when the subject was drug abuse. I never mentioned drug dealing by the way.

Shame on America? Shame on this guy for being stupid. 17 years at Coca Cola and he couldn't put away money for a doctors visit should the occasion arise?

I"m sure a doctors visit is all he needs. Do you have any idea how expensive medical bills can be??

Had he done this at a retail store, you might be correct, but bank robbery falls under federal setencing guidelines which mandate a minimum jail sentence..

This guy clearly is not very smart. His actions are not defensible, period. Expensive medical bills or not. Besides, if he had saved money for a doctors visit, then a doctor would have provided him some insight on what was going on. If it was an emergency, then he would not have been denied medical care. He would have just been saddled with medical debt. Not a good situation, but robbing a bank is not the answer. And neither is saddling taxpayers with his problems.

Apparently you think differently.

Making a blanket statement condemning 350 million people because of 1 (one) persons actions..

Now THAT'S what's shameful here....

The story in the OP deserves the bleeding heart of the year nomination.
