No, I meant music-making software. Like many professional software programs it is not available for Linux yet.
I like OpenOffice, but I have to use among other things a Makro that is only available for MS Word.
Not to mention that with a genuine Windows OS I get a powerful Antivirus (Security Essentials) for free that would otherwise cost me 40 bucks per year.
Have you tried Ardour? I think that it's a top-of-the-line digital audio workstation which is available for Linux... though I must admit, being a mechanical engineer, music editing isn't my area of expertise.
Also, Linux doesn't require anti-virus software because of the way that the operating system is managed. Might be worth giving a second look - it's quite a robust operating system. Costs nothing to try.

Well, I have already invested hundreds of dollars and I can't complain about my Windows XP-based PC. It does what it is supposed to do. I am not fanatical about computers, the ideological Apple vs. PC vs. Linux war is not my cup of tea.

Thanks. I used to have an Ubuntu CD, tried to install it for fun, but it did not work, got error messages about certain components missing
If you're still interested in playing with Ubuntu you can use Wubi (available on the Ubuntu site) to install it within Windows. You'll have the option of booting into either OS at startup. If you decide to remove Ubuntu installed in that manner it's done through add or remove programs in the Windows control panel and is as simple as removing an unwanted program.
This is an error in thinking... MS windows is the most common OS and hence will be used by most left-leaning and right-leaning ppl... Apple OS is the second most common in their overpriced laptops/desktops... the people who use Apple computers are either 1) I need a better video editing machine or 2) I have a lot of money to waste and can come up with some excuses to buy one...
