And as far as re-paving roads? Sure getting a lot of that around here. And admittedly I am no engineer, but they seem to repave roads that really don't need re-paving a lot....

Seems they should get off of the mandatory road maintenance schedule and re-pave roads maybe when they NEED TO BE?

Drives me nuts.

I'm not for government tampering into economics on that scale.

Rail will never be cost effective for passengers, probably ever again.

If we had workers willing to do the job for $2 a day, we could make that stuff right here in the good ole USA!!

We should build our highways at the same level as the autobahn. The roads are deeper there (I believe deeper than 30 inches, ours are around 15). That means our roads wear out quicker, and we can't drive as fast on them. Also, they don't have large medians like we have here in the states, they have dual guard rails on the center of the lanes. Its actually safer to do that, then our large median system.

Sure...let's build our roads like the autobahn. If we start the debate now, we may break ground by the year 2076.

Do you realise how much that would cost to make our highways like Germany's? And how big is Germany compared to the US?
