Chavez says he is fighting cancer - World - Canoe.ca (http://cnews.canoe.ca/CNEWS/World/2011/07/01/18361756.html - broken link)

CARACAS - Venezuela’s flamboyant socialist leader Hugo Chavez said Thursday he had undergone an operation to remove a cancerous tumor, posing a serious challenge to his near-total dominance of national politics.

The announcement, which confirmed rumors swirling for nearly three weeks, convulsed the South American OPEC nation ahead of what was already looking like a tight race for a presidential election next year

He is a bit paranoid and extreme, but I kind of share some of his views regarding the rest of the world, albeit in a more moderate way. He is uncomfortable and independent and at the same time powerful because of all the oil, which of course makes him a hated person.
I wish him well...

The only real reason the West hates Chavez is because he doesn't play ball the way western leaders want him to. I don't think the guy is a dictator, which is what is purported in the media.

I wish him well...
You wish him well?

I wish he died.

You share his world views?? Please elaborate.

The oil belongs to Venezuelans and not to him. Our oil does not make him a hated person. His actions and personality over the past 12 years make him a hated person. He has stolen more money than Muammar Gadafi. Chavez is not Socialist, he is simply a tirant.

He gives for free 100,000 OPEC oil barrels to Fidel castro everyday as a gift! 10 million USD dollars daily.

More than 1 million Venezuelans have left the country in the past 12 years.

Chavez and his family must pay for all the damage they have done.

I can't comment on that as I don't know if it is true or not. (You might simply be an opponent of his trying to make him look bad.)
Yes, I do share SOME of his views, in case you have ignored that little word.
Specifically his views on US and European foreign politics...
I don't like his connections with the radicals in Tehran and some other things about him, though.
Whether or not he himself practices what he preaches, I can't tell.

And yes, I wish anyone with cancer well, call me old-fashioned

I wasn't going to put it so bluntly, but I certainly sympathize with the sentiment. I grew up in several oil camps in Venezuela...it is a wonderful, amazing country, rich with natural resources and splendid in physical beauty. Yet Chavez has somehow ridden the country into the ground while exacerbating the divide between the rich and the poor, who keep him in power as he buys off their vote with big promises and meager programs.

And now the rumors that Chavez is permitting the Iranians to build missle sites on the Paraguana Peninsula. If true, and the Iranians tip their missles with nuclear weapons, Chavez could suceed in creating a nuclear confrontation with the United States.

So yes, I hope the cancer takes him. Venezuela desperately needs to rebuild it's middle class, which it can't do with Chavez in power. Venezuela has an unfortunate history of conflicts and coups, I hope they don't have to go through another one.

Might be a sympathy card this communist is trying to play. Is his popularity dropping perchance?

I'm sure many Venezuelan's love the guy, he did what obama wishes he could do...

Redistribute the wealth, the government owning all media and oil companies....

The secret police silencing all opposition...

Making himself president for life...

Wow, anti Chavez propaganda above, nothing new about that.

Before anyone starts forming opinions on Chavez from a few comments I strongly suggest you do more research. There are blatant lies above, not surprising to anyone who understands what the political scene is in Venezuela.

Didn't Chavez also announce his belief that the United States had somehow caused his cancer?
