Well, that is what happens when you have a hybrid. We should model ourselves after countries like Sweden and Norway.
That will never happen. We're more along the empire building history like Rome and Great Britain. We're too "in your face" in other country's business. Our leaders are too power hungry to only concern themselves with the well being of the US.
See the histories of the USSR and the DDR as prime examples of socialist ideology gone bad.

well you found two, however history is rife with socialism failures. england france, germany, greece, cuba, albania, spain, portugal, ireland, belgium, the netherlands, poland, japan, australia, yugoslavia, china, india, and many others. note that all of these countries are in fact moving towards LESS government and MORE free markets. why? because teh cost of big government is prohibitive. sweden and norway might have avoided the problems for now, but they too will feel the weight of big government at some point, if they havent already.
the preponderance of the evidence is against socialism and for free markets. heck look back to the roman empire and you will see where the US is headed. rome started as a free market society, and evolved into a large unsustainable socialist empire, and eventually failed. and it doesnt matter if that failure was from within or without, it was a failure none the less, and was caused by big government.
When that flow comes back we'll be earning about what the Chinese and Indians do, since we gave all our jobs to them - yet another example of failed capitalism.
No, that is globalism, not capitalism.
The interests of the world come before the interests of any individual nation.

I'd argue that those are, in fact, hybrids. Be that as it may...
I'm a network geek working in the movie business, so I'm almost forced to have an opinion on this - and I find that Protect IP is a great example of the cure being worse than the disease.
Fact: There's a huge problem with intellectual property being stolen. The MPAA has at least decided to go after those who profit from movie piracy (some of whom profit in a very big way), rather than John Doe who downloaded a movie in good faith. The problem is there, and it's real.
But this legislation is over-reaching, and the technical implications are unpleasant to consider.

No. Capitalism went against gravity. If anything brought more progress to this planet it was capitalism.
You have to understand that "socialism" isn't exactly what you're thinking it is. Eventually everything spreads out so thin (billions of years later) that it just collapses back in on itself until critical mass where the bing bang happens all over again or it's spread so thin that it just breaks apart and the average mean temperature anywhere in the universe is −459.67 °F.

I agree with you, however I'd say our leaders aren't concerned with the well being of the US or any other country. Our leaders are only concerned with themselves and their Wall Street and bank buddies.

Somewhere things went wrong and it is called greed. Once that entered into the picture capitalism ceased to work. It's a failure at this point. At least in this country.

It could be easily argued that the benefits gained by India and China came about as a result of their embrace of capitalism.
Our losses in these areas are caused by a corrupt and inefficient government intent on maximizing it's own power and bringing maximum profit to it's members.
The problem isn't due to the failure of capitalism. It's due to the failure of government to operate within Constitutional constraints and our own failure as a citizenry to force government to act as our representatives rather than our rulers.

I edited my post to say - at least in this country. Yes, India is very happy right now with capitalism. But it does not work in this country anymore as those in power got too greedy. It's not going to work in the future. I wonder how many more jobs there are that will be outsourced.
