So the one "promise" the great orator has actually owned up to and guess what his union cronies are realizing what a mess it would create. Po widdle obammer. Can't seem to make anybody happy with his greening, or should I say, destroying of the economy.............can't build new refineries due to regs now no new coal plants.

"But that doesn't matter to Obama and Big Green, they are determined to kill the coal industry because of its alleged contribution to global warming.
It appears that Jackson's EPA has now found the perfect regulatory tool to accomplish that goal - the proposed Mercury and Air Toxics Standard (MATS), which, according to the agency, would apply to all "Coal and Oil-Fired Electric Utility Steam Generating Units and Standards of Performance for Fossil-Fuel-Fired Electric Utility, Industrial-Commercial-Institutional, and Small Industrial-Commercial-Institutional Steam Generating Units."
The MATS proposal has sparked massive opposition from among energy industry groups and conservative think tanks, but now a huge coalition of unions that normally are vocal supporters of Obama are warning of the loss of millions of jobs, substantial power-generation capability, and other harmful consequences radiating throughout the entire U.S. economy.
The group is the Unions for Jobs and the Environment (UJAE), a 501(C)(4) foundation whose 15 member-unions represents "more than 3.2 million workers in electric power, transportation, coal mining, construction and other industries."
Naturally, the union coalition's first concern is the impact of MATS on employment. In a July 8 letter to EPA, UJAE notes that, while some"tens of thousands of jobs" would be created by the proposed rule's requirement for installation of new emissions equipment, "on the other hand, a potentially much larger number of permanent jobs may be lost in the mining, electric utility, and transport sectors if large numbers of coal-fired generating plants were closed in response to the rule. We regard this risk as real and substantial."
The UJAE also cautions EPA that its proposed three-year grace period for compliance with MATS is "utterly inadequate for designing, financing, permitting, and constructing the multitude of retrofit pollution controls needed to comply with the rule."
Most worrisome for UJAE's members, however, is the terrible impact MATS would have on the ability of the U.S. to build new electrical power-generating plants in the future. The proposed rule would effectively ban construction of any new plants using coal:
"The proposed MATS rule would preclude the construction of any new coal-based electric generating units due to the severity of its emission limitations for mercury, acid gases and particulate matter ('PM.')," UJAE said in its letter.
"Data provided by EPA on June 8, 2011, show that no unit in EPA’s sample of more than 200 coal-based generating units meets the combined MATS new source emission limits for mercury, acid gases and PM."

Seems the unions have no problem using the Bureau of Labor to kill 100,000 Boeing jobs in South Carolina but suddenly when it affects 250,000 of their jobs it matters? Yeah, all those union dues are serving them so well. They'll likely get to keep mining coal so it can be sent to China and India for outsourced manufacturing jobs.

Winning the Future the Obama way!

Has President Obama just received his first clue? If so, July 8th should be declared a national holiday, for it truly is historic.

I think it's the unions who received a clue. The green jobs lie is now effecting them and they don't seem to like it much. Idiots.

Back in 2008, I wondered why unions like this supported Obama. O knew it would only be a matter of time before he pushed for things like this that would affect them negatively.

Coal is killing us.

We need to shut it down.

Nationalize all fossil fuel and nuclear energy.
Begin the orderly shutdown of that energy sector while standing up renewable energy.
No coal. No oil. No natural gas. No nukes.

Do it now, or regret it later.

Have we nationalized sectors of the economy before, when our survival depended on it?
Yes. WWII is the best example.
Have we nationalized sectors of the economy before, just to help the wealthy?
Yes. Savings and loan under Reagan. GM and Financials market under Bush and Obama.
Will people complain?
Yes.
Will the wealthy still come out on top?
Always.

Simple. Problem solved. Let's get to work.
(or we can just drive off the cliff like we always do and then wonder how we got there)

How is coal killing us? It's far safer than nuclear

He didn't say he would "kill coal".

On the contrary, candidate and President Obama has long pushed the oxymoronic idea of 'clean coal', much to the chagrin of much of the left:
Obama Administration Pouring $1 Billion Into Clean Coal Project - US News and World Report
RFK Jr. Slams Obama On "Clean Coal" - Political Hotsheet - CBS News

Now back to your weird alternate reality!

tell you what. rather than let the economy go into a slow nose dive of deep depression, lets just crash it completely now and save time eh? lets just eliminate all coal fired power plants, just shut them all down now. same with all nuclear plants. may as well also shut down all the hydroelectric power plants and tear down the dams they are in as well. and then lets all get on the wind power and solar power bandwagon, along with all the other "green energy" options shall we? i mean what is electricity to the united states? and who cares if we already know what will happen to the unemployment rate by forcibly switching over to green energy, that was done in spain and they lost two jobs for every green energy job they created. real good there guys.

i mean who cares if energy costs skyrocket and take the rest of the economy with it?
