I'm sure you're convinced that the economy would be booming right now under McCain, but I'm not. Obama exceeded my expectations because I expected the worst for anyone who followed Bush.
i agree. a good example of insanity is voting GOP and expecting fiscal conservatism, which is what I did when I voted for Bush in 2004. I won't do it again.

My attitude about Iraq was: "I am sure that the Bush administration knows a tremendous amount of things that I don't, so I have to trust we're there for good reasons." Right now, I don't have particularly strong feelings about the war.

Can only speculate what things would have been like with another president? Are you kidding? In the real world, rather than parallel fantasy worlds, we deal with absolute results. This universe is not one of what might have been or what could have been, as that is impossible to determine. Hitler may have become a Budhist priest in another life or persued his interest in art. However, he did not. What we can say is what is real and present today. That is the measure by which we have evaluated every other president in US history and Obama is not exempt from examination. He, and his policies, have failed.
Bush was certainly not a great president, however, the alternatives were Gore or Kerry. These options were terrible, therefore one was stuck with Bush.
To Bush's credit, he actually cut unemployment and improved the economy after 9/11 and the "dot com" bubble. Obama, on the other hand, has resulted in INCREASED UNEMPLOYMENT, INCREASED DEBT, and massive ANNUAL DEFICITS. These are the facts. To vote for Obama again assures the same failed policies for another four years.
Obama will do a fine job in his second term, with a solidly Republican House and Senate to aid and guide him. I sort of have to agree with the posts about the slim pickings on the Republican side....I'm not too interested in the ones whose brains are consumed with social issues, even if they are conservative on the economic side. But it will be a cold day in hell when I vote for a president who speaks and acts as this one did over the past three weeks.

I hear you. I think that term captures a lot.
For me, the war was a big deal. It was baldfaced lie and a huge distraction, not to mention a loss of American lives, and yet people reelected Bush. Unbelievable. He should have been impeached for that. Seriously.
I think after 2012, he'll have four more years of being the president to worry about .. no time to focus on much else.
Gosh I hope not. I've had enough "change" to last me to the end of my days.
