Wait, I already knew that.

Hey, I think you are onto something - except that "motivated" think. How about we change it to "required".

Have you actually heard some of these people speak? They feel totally discarded and disregarded by society. They are being pushed to the edges. When you do that to people and do it long enough they no longer have a vested interest in society. At some point the anger frustration and hopelessness manifest itself.

It's a two way street. When soceity turns its back on a group of people at some point those people will turn their backs on society.

If you study history then you should be aware whenever there are serious levels of income inequality in a society there is also a level of civil unrest.

And hell no I in no way condone their behavior in any way. I just see more than one side of this story.

Not me - I despise liberals a whole lot more than I do normal people.

Would there be this level of "I don't condone it, but I understand it" if a flash mob of middle-class shopkeeps armed themselves with bats and molotov cocktails and went around beating the crap out of worthless underclass layabouts on welfare and snotty little yob twits complaining about the evil bourgeois oppressors and taxes they don't even pay?

These people have it better than the vast majority of the world's population. Moreover, they are not protesting, they are looting and smashing things just for the hell of it. Go read some of the quotes from these kids. It's not about oppression.

I was not making any such statement. But the poor tend to do desperate and silly things when they feel alienated. Our country is heading in precisely the wrong direction, if one does not like the poor, like the OP.

I have not posted anything claiming to know the causes of the riots. It sounds like an eruption of criminality among the poor youth that is pretty unprecedented. I do know that Britain has a very long history of strong class distinctions. A cockney or Mick was lower than a nobleman's or even businessman's dog for hundreds of years before race came into it. And they have a well established hooligan culture that loves to fight and riot after soccer matches. When I was in Ireland, they had the same problem. Kids who binge drink and want to kick ass. Noone with any sense went out after the bars closed. So, it could be a reaction against the rigid class system, drunk out of control youth, or maybe just a criminal subculture, like the KKK. Don't know. I don't excuse them for a second, but neither do I think all or even many poor act like that in Britain or anywhere else.

Strangely, they both have the same effect on the human brain.
