HC475, you're really off-base with your analysis of liberalism, by the way. MLK was not the progenitor of modern liberalism. The Civil Rights Movement played a large role in its current form, but so did the Progressivism of people well before him.
Before MLK pretty much everybody was a conservative... in fear of the "Red" commies...

Even if we assume Kennedy was killed by a conspiratorial group, there could be SEVERAL possible motivators....many more likely than the MIC claim including the Russians, Cubans, Mob etc. Frankly, I find the MIC argument vastly more pathetic than lone shooter.
However, that doesn't explain how Clinton hosed the MIC royally and nothing happened to him.
Maybe Clinton WAS killed and replaced with a robot! Quick, run a young gal with thick ankles past him and see if he grabs her butt!
It isn't the left who have pushed more toward the center, but the center that has been pushed further to the left. If you change the benchmark of what a liberal is, then you can make everyone seem like they are to the right of it.
The center has not been pushed further to the left, or we would be seeing different things taking place in American society. Our Democratic president is a centrist at best, and conservative and neoliberal ideology dominate the political landscape. I have not changed my benchmark for liberalism, I simply recognize the difference between rhetoric and action.

Everyone was afraid of the commies because the commies were a threat. That doesn't make everyone "conservative." Nor is it a quality unique to liberals to have noticed when the commies were no longer a threat. The world changed; liberals didn't.

There is no single thing that can be pointed to an called an MIC. The MIC doesn't give out membership cards. That doesn't mean it doesn't, in a broad sense, exist. There was no "hippie" office in the 1960s handing out hippie memberships, but you still knew one when you saw one!

The liberal movement was "minor" and scattered in the first half of the 20th century... just a small group of people...
We still have people telling us we have to be afraid of this and that. We have to be afraid of terrorists. We have to be afraid of criminals. We have to be afraid of racism. We have to be afraid of socialism. We have to be afraid of religion. We have to be afraid of illegal immigration. We have to be afraid of the government. We have to be afraid of corporations.
