Quote:
Mr. Obama’s jobs bill would prohibit employers from discriminating against job applicants because they are unemployed.

Under the proposal, it would be “an unlawful employment practice” if a business with 15 or more employees refused to hire a person “because of the individual’s status as unemployed.”

Unsuccessful job applicants could sue and recover damages for violations, just like when an employer discriminates on the basis of a person’s race, color, religion, sex or national origin.

No manager will be willing to interview those who are unemployed for fear of being sued.

This would prevent employers from stating "unemployed applicants will not be
considered" however they can still find the unemployed people to be less qualified and thereby avoid interviewing them. It's a feel-good law meant to
help the campaign without actually doing anything to hep anyone.

How is that wanting to keep you permanently unemployed? It doesn't say that in the link.

How do you prove that someone is discriminated against because they are unemployed? Seems like an invitation to frivolous lawsuits and a waste of court time and tax payer money.

Actually it's worse than that.

Employees not only discriminate against unemployed, if you are a self-employed consultant, many employers consider you to be "unemployed" and refuse to consider you for even a contract position.

The way I see it, it isn't Obama who is trying to keep people permanently unemployed, it's companies with that policy.

Once again a blatantly misleading thread title that exists merely to bash Obama when the information in the article is 100 % to the contrary.

Dont worry about precious corporations being sued. Frivolous lawsuits get dumped every day by judges anyway.

Employment Law is the worst type of law to practice bcs MOST states are now "right to work" so workers , inherently have no rights to anything anyway, including paying into needed healthcare.

In 5 more years every red state will look like China.

Self employed people get use to calling their own shots. Many employers feel they will not adapt well to being told what to do and when to do it. I read that some where when I was self employed and how it is that I just became less employable. So, I took a week end security job at the same time I was self employed. Then a gradually, graduated on that...here in about 15 minutes I will at my first 9-5 and it only took me, 11 years to land it. I'm also keeping my part-time job (it's a different one) as a safety net.

If what the OP says it's true, then that might explain how it was I was able to land a full-time job, while presently employed somewhere else.

Yeah I guess that's why so many folks are fleeing from Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, and New York to work in those awfull red states such as Texas, North Dakota, and Oklahoma.

There you go, the answer as to why the NLRB needs to be around. As Corp. make believe they are looking for american workers. They want to hire the lowest paid they can find and get as much productivity out of them. The older unemployed will have a salary history behind them and know the value of a days work. A new employee will not have that in their minds and will work as if in a sweat shop to keep the job.

The trade agreements that were going to make the world equal to the usa backfired. We are seeing our standards taken down to the 3rd world. People have to move to find jobs. See in the 1930's the people in the center of the country moved to the coasts for jobs. the reverse is happening. Its simple to under stand when you see company towns being started by the oil co. in those areas as oil finds happen. the problem will be when the workers find out that that right to work doesn't mean right to live.
