By choice but not necessarily by ethics.

If the time came where people were organized enough, people who were committed would support revolution.

I guess the Dali Llama, Gandhi, and Martin Luther King Jr. weren't committed to their causes.

You do not have to commit violence to demonstrate that you are committed to your cause.

Yes, but I would guess that a substantial number of these people and their supporters, myself included, are Marxists. Not the Dali Lama.

I wish them luck.I`m not sure what it is going to take for change ,but something has to happen. The middle class is dying. Most of the jobs where a man could make a living and send his kids to college are gone. They packed up and open shop in 3rd world countries. Now you have paid politicians helping to bust unions. It`s sad because I`m seeing more and more grown men and women who are living with their parents because they can`t afford housing in a safe area.
What is really sad.I know some friends who are talking "THEY TO GET OFF THEIR BUTTS AND GET A DAMN JOB" I know for a fact if some of them missed 1 or 2 pay checks. They would not be able to pay their rent or mortgage.

Depends on what you consider a substantial number? 10-20% maybe, I could see that. Most are not though. A desire for a more a reasonable distribution of wealth does not make you a socialist.

Also even those who respect Marx's works and believe in his ideals do not necessarily agree with Marx's assertion that social equality can only be obtained through a violent revolt of the proletariat.

In short a willingness to commit violence does not equate linearly with the amount of dedication you have to the occupy cause.

I think the scenario in which such a radical change could occur without violence is very unlikely. People who have a track record of abusing power would have to just decide to give it up. Otherwise, they'll throw everything and the kitchen sink.

This was originally a thread of the local impact of Occupy Philly. However, the level of general political discussion has warranted a move to this Politics & Other Controversies forum.
