It is no small coincidence that the people that frequent Walmart the most, are the ones that do not understand the simple arithmetic and basic economics of how Walmart and stores like it have undermined the economy and the American worker. Although saving pennies in the short term, they are seeing to it that they will never be able to afford anything other than what the Chinese see fit for exportation. They are also seeing to it that their kids and grandkids will have to expect even less in terms of salaries and quality of merchandise.
Exactly. When you try and have a conversation with most people who think Walmart is wonderful they don't seem to get the connection that Walmart has really damaged the American economy.
Another interesting fact about Walmart is while they're very good at having cameras in the stores to watch their customers, once you leave their stores they're not concerned with your safety.
Their parking lots are poorly lit and there have been many crimes committed in them against people who just left the store.

You would be amazed at their technology for in store and out of store surveillance. They can get a license plate number off of a car in the back of the parking lot, but they are not looking to protect their customers from crime. They are out to protect themselves from their customers. I can't really blame them for that, but the lighting in the parking lot is very poor.
My biggest complaint with the customers is the shopping carts. What is it with these people that they can't put shopping carts back in their stalls. The carts are everywhere.

A family that on a particular day needs/wants milk, eggs, dog food, christmas lights, engine oil, and a pair of kids' shoes, where else are they supposed to go? I know people love the idealism of ''ma and pa'' stores, but without supermarkets, they are driving to about 4 places to get those things. Wal-Mart's true savings come in that it saves people large amounts of money and time driving around to get everything, not the actual prices at Wal-Mart themselves neccessarily.
Walmart - why are there so many strange people there.
I think it is amazing that a store that attracts 120 million of us every week, and employs 1.5 million Americans can be the object of so much hostility. And before somebody pops up to say the jobs suck, evidently they are the best opportunity available to each one of those 1.5 million. Other merchants hate it when Walmart comes to a new small town--because they raise the wage scale for the area.
As for the "damage" done to America, free trade lets us get more for everything we produce and pay less for everything we need. There is a symmetry to the workers in Peoria building heavy machinery to be shipped to China, and spending a fraction of their pay at Walmart. The whole world is better off as a result.

Nobody is saying that they don't have great convenience and great prices. If you have to go there, go there Sunday morning before 11 a.m. There are fewer people there. Never, I repeat never go there after 12:00 a.m. or on Friday or Saturday night.
Another Walmart bashing thread, with a lot of posts from people that must not get out much but stay in their little sterile world.
Walmart or any store for that matter is a sampling of the community as a whole. if you never leave your house you don't see them walking down the street, at the supermarket, or wherever.
Haven't set foot in one for 10 years, and quite proud that my money goes elsewhere.
