9% of Democrats think it means Grumpy Old People. I would have to agree with that one. Another 3% of democrats thought it meant God's own people, another good one.

It actually means grand old Party. I kind of think Grumpy old people is more applicable today.

No semblance of it remains. It will likely be relegated to just being a chapter in future History Books. We will miss them.

If a college student thinks a surge protector is for water flow it's ludicrous to expect people to know what GOP stands for

Well I think that almost every media outlet with the exception of WSJ uses the acronym GOP, I guess we don't have very many curious people in the U.S.

at least the majority of republicans know what GOP stands for. compare that to 47% of independents and only 38% of democrats.

The poll asked, what does the abbreviation GOP stand for? Only 45% of Americans correctly identified it as the Grand Old Party. Fifty one percent of Republicans, 47% of Independents, and only 38% of Democrats got it right.

Well from the article, 9% of democrats said that it stood for Grumpy old People so I don't know if they did not know the real answer or were simply giving a more accurate answer.
