And I am thinking that we need to speed up the process. The appeals process takes so long to get the person off death row. Better to speed up the process and take another evil person off the earth.
Would love to hear how it is cruel to end some guys life that murdered another? Is it OK for them to take someone elses life and not have to worry about the consequences of their actions? Maybe it would be a good idea to look at what these people have done that caused them to be placed on death row. Why not read about what they did.
Just two cents, but suppose we simply made the death penalty public? No doubt some changes would arrive quickly after the first one or two on the nightly news. The penalty might be eliminated entirely at that point, or at least be applied in a much smaller number of cases.

If you want to know what cruel is, talk to some of the families and friends that have lost loved ones to some sick-o.
Fry them ALL.
Absolutely, and make it a public spectacle like they did in the old days.
"Eye for an eye" punishment enforced in a timely manner on convicted murderers would bring the crime rate down and empty out Death Rows across the nation. Hey, we'd save money on feeding and housing all those sickos, too.
Just stop that. I send letters to Obama and recommend everybody else to do so. It's unacceptable and it's cruel. Stop it.
Unacceptable and cruel is what these convicted felons on death row have done to thier victims. The death penalty after 20+ years of appeals to make certain all the evidence has been heard, is not cruel comparatively speaking.
This is a matter for the individual states. Thankfully, we are not a Socialist country and the states determine if they conduct capital punishment.
We don't need to be supporting the scum of society who have been tried and been found guilty of multiple murders.
Do the people of Norway wish to feed and house the very worst of the worst at their own cost? Might empty up some needed prison space here. Maybe you'd like one as a guest in your home and be responsible that he/she is not a threat to society?

I doubt that would be a deterant. More likely it would feed the blood thirsty masses.
A real deterent would be to severely cut down the appeals process and time between sentencing and execution. Twenty to forty years is much, much too long.

so you think the death penalty is cruel and unacceptable. ok then talk to the people who have lost loved ones in this country to scumbags who decided that it was a good time to just kill someone because they could. talk to the families of people who even though they cooperated with a scumbag who decided to rob a convenience market of $50, and then decided to kill the person behind the counter.
or talk to those who were kidnapped, and then murdered so that no witnesses were left behind, oh you you cant BECAUSE THEY ARE DEAD.
there is good reason for the death penalty, and just because you dont like it doesnt mean it is a bad thing to have. and dont give me the tired old line that it wont bring those murdered back, or that the criminals should sit in jail for life thinking about what they did. these are bravo sierra arguments.

My only problems with the death penalty is that it takes way too long to complete the process and it costs the taxpayers way too much going through appeal after appeal for each of those indigent offenders. Is 26 appeals really neccessary? Even in heavy death penalty states, the average time on death row is over 10 years. Why? Isn't three (3) failed appeals enough? Gimme a break.
If you're gonna keep 'em alive for another 20 years, don't try them as capital cases. Just go for life imprisonment. It costs about 10x's less to convict for a non-capital case. If you gave me a choice of life in prison or immediate lethal injection, it would be a no brainer. I don't like being in a cage. I'd rather face the afterlife than the next 20 years of being with a big sex offender named Bubba.
