They are not the only democratic nation in the ME, turkey is also democratic
and yes israel is an oppressive regime, they are worse than hitler and the Nazis.
The Nazis moved the Jews into ghetto's.
The Israelis keep the Palestinians in death camps and use them for shooting practice.
How many Palestinians have been killed so far, as far as I'm aware of the Israelis have killed 6 million Palestinians.
Anybody can pull up the UN's Goldberg report showing Israel killed 320 children in one Month during their latest assault on Gaza. This was supposedly in retaliation for makeshift rocket attacks on Israel that killed 8 Israelis over the course of two years.
So tell us how is it "aid" if nearly all of it is required to be spent on weapons from the United States. Wouldn't this be more of an indirect welfare program for US companies that build weapons?
Yes it would be. So I'm supposed to be thrilled the USA gave you F16's using my tax dollars?
I don't think it's unpatriotic at all to question whether we should stop giving aid to Israel. If you watched the Republican debate yesterday you will have heard Ron Paul stating we should stop all foreign aid because we're broke. It was obviously not a popular thing to say in front of that crowd and his opponents played to that by pandering to them and saying it's our duty to send money to Israel. I doubt half of them could point to Israel on a map.
I am a firm supporter of Israel but I agree with Dr Paul that we are too broke to send aid overseas. Israel is a sovereign country and this aid gives many here in the US reason to think there are strings attached with the aid.
But as someone else pointed out, much of the aid is in the form of weapons manufactured by American factories. If the aid stops, the jobs go away.
We can't use the money to build infrastructrue here in the USA? Or pay off debt? Whatever you decide to do it's better than supporting these brutal thugs.
Take the US out of the equation and let Israel go on it's own - do you really believe that Israel will continue to "keep the peace"? Just how do you suppose they will manage that?
I don't care what they do. If they decide to lash out at other ME countries good luck. See how far they get trying to stop them from building N weapons. There is 73 Million in Iran alone..10X what Israel has. If they think they can subjugate 30X the population of their own country...have at it.

No strings attached??? You really believe that the US is doing it because it's the right thing to do?? No politics involved? No US agenda??? How many other countries send or ever sent aid to Israel??
If the aid stops, jobs go away?? Where, in the US?? Building weapons for Israel?? Now those are jobs I wouldn't mind see being lost. Not only will jobs go away, so will the slaughter of innocent Palestinians by Israelis.
And before anyone jumps on me, granted there were terrorists amongst those killed by Israelis, but the majority - women, children, elderly - were innocent people.
Only because nobody has proposed statehood for either the Virgin Islands or Guam.
