yes there wasnt a response bcs the last sentence was attack on OP. "go hang out with successful people"?...investment clubs in the library in this region consist of people selling Amway, lol.
I don't claim to speak for that poster but I think the point was to surround yourself with better people. That's what presidents are suppose to do, why not us?
Yes people are always pointing to Bill Gates Rags to riches story. What a farce. The odds of what happening with Gates are astronomical.
Microsoft could not happen today with all the business law changes. Also didn't hurt that his dad was a successful lawyer that could help his son with all the business and copywrite stuff.
But, Gates was talented, didn't need his college and had a big something to sell to the world at a major profit.
GOOD FOR HIM.
The state of the economy has everything to do with your question. Right now, no, it's tough to "become rich" even if you work hard, make all the right decisions, etc. I think luck would HAVE to play some part in it ("luck" being a debatable term for being ready at the right time). The ability to move up the socio-economic ladder is almost next to impossible.
This also means that if you DO have the wealth and the income, you're more liable to hold onto it and not invest it (and thereby pumping it into the economy). The money is stagnant right now.
TRUE, the economy has to have customers who can afford to buy your stuff, without that the next Bill Gates won't happen.
I have 2 wonderful daughters, a grandaughter, a son in law, 3 cats, a turtledove, brother and sister, and friends. I have a roof over my head, food to eat. A job, and can afford to pay my bills.
Some would consider me rich...I don't, but I don't have to worry about finances nearly as much as a lot of people that I know. How did I get this way, mostly just luck. I have a few talents, but it did not have to work for them, I was just born with them...luck.
I know people that manager their money well and work three times harder than I do, but have little or no money to spare and are just barely making ends meet.
Someone will say that some people are stupid. Well if you are not very intelligent or you are intelligent is that not just luck as well.
The fact is that the belief that if you work hard and look to the future you too could become rich is simply a gross exaggeration. While it is true, and there is anecdotal evidence to show it, some will and do become rich, your odds are not that great. You do increase your odds by working hard and making good decisions, but not everyone can become rich no matter if they all work very hard and all make very good decisions. It is mathamatically impossible as their is a finite amount of wealth.
So at the end of the day the very wealthy should not be put on pedestals for simply being lucky and the middle class and working poor should not be looked down upon for being unlucky.

We need more of that.
Please....Bill Gates would have made it the same regardless of his father.
