You would be surprised at how often I hear "...but you don't look (Mexican|Cuban|Puerto-Rican)" from people you'd think would know better. I usually laugh it off but it can lead to some awkward moments.
One of my best friends is a cubana with (natural) red hair, hazel eyes and very pale skin. Her (blood) family has members ranging from very pale like her to dark brown. Her grandmother has some obvious African features but is fairly light brown. So, if we follow the American "one drop rule" my friend is "Black" due to her known African ancestry. However, the one drop rule does not exist in Latin America (or elsewhere in the world) so she would call herself whatever she wants to call herself.
By the way, she simply refers to herself as Latina and embraces her African roots as well as her Spanish roots. But she is very quick to let people know "no soy una gringa"
Sorry but Hispanics were not counted in schools as "White" in California and certainly not throughout the Southwest. And definitely not in the state of Texas. (see the great epic flick "Giant" if you want to understand how Hispanics were really treated)
Once again. dumb white folks who thought all Hispanics/Latinos were "Mexican". In Texas they didn't know better. But in the year 2012, people should know not all Latinos are Mexican. Please educate yourselves if you haven't already! It's getting old.

You'll be surprised how many "White" people walking around have a drop of something else in their blood. But don't tell them that.
A Mexican robbed my mom's house and got arrested. He stole her cell phone and used it. We could track the GD idiot down. He's doing 3 years in the Peniteniary for multiple felony thefts.

I am the last person that needs to be "educated" about that topic. I am Black and have many relatives who passed for White back in the day (pre-Civil Rights movement). Some who completely "crossed over" and I'm sure that their White spouses never knew that they were married to and had children with negros.

My niece is as white as you can get. She has golden brown hair with natural highlights, pale white skin, freckles, and eyes as blue as the sky. No one can ever mistake her for a not being a "white girl". She can live in Sweden, and she will blend in with no problem. Well, that's because she does have white blood...of course. But that same little girl has a Dominican paternal grandfather who is BLACK. I am talking Denzel Washington black. For reasons that only nature can explain, she does not show any of her genes from her grandfather.
But, If she wants, she can live her life as a "white" girl.

Like they say, don't judge a book by it's cover.

It would be so funny if they ended up giving birth to children who were as black as Kueth Duany.
