yes but the real estate market is now in the dumpster, worst since 1930. Why should anyone under age 25 even aspire to "own a home" there is no incentive.....

In this economy a large home is nothing but a money pit, high maintenance and no longer an "american dream".

If the gvmt pays $400 a week not to work , who wants to work for $500 . They see it as working for $2.50 an hr . I wouldnt work for $2.50 an hr either. But if mommy gvmt wasnt paying me anything I would work for $500 a week if I was unemployed.

That's odd, in my area, employers have no difficulty getting hundreds of applications for minimum wage jobs.

Au contraire...I view owning a home crucial for long-term financial stability, especially for low earners. Owning a home with a fixed-rate mortgage means locking in your payment, something impossible when you're renting. Rents in my area are up 8-10 percent over same time last year. I've been displaced by rising rent several times. If you don't have kids, owning a home means you can live in your home for free by renting out spare rooms, I've known several people who did this.

Why should anyone aspire to NOT own a home?

Did you go in and talk to them about pell grants , scholorships , student loans?
